i want to use images in my javascript but i can't seem to get a link for it the one i use tells me i need a key but i have no idea how to add my key to the url

I don't know if that's what you're asking for, but ...
When an API Request is made, in the responses received you will find the Path of the images:
poster_path or backdrop_path or profile_path or logo_path or still_path.
Something like that:
To access/download the image use the basic images URL.
The request should be similar to these:
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/wigZBAmNrIhxp2FNGOROUAeHvdh.jpg
Make sure to read the documentation around images.

where would i insert the api key because i've tried this and it kept asking for the key

The PI Key is only required for API Requests.
Searching for data and information about films, series, etc.
To get the images, you do not need an API Key.
Just the image Path.
