So, this film has 11 genres: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/25120-kanthaswamy

Once you get into those numbers, it just gets dumb and pointless.

Might it be a good idea to set a limit on how many genres are allowed for a film?

Basically force people to make some difficult decisions and choose the most relevant genres for a film.

I would prefer to have a film with no genres rather than 11.

6 and above genres only accounts for 380+ films. Which to me, is more of a reason to set a limit. Preferably to 3. At least then they mean something.

3 genres = 1500+

4 genres = 7400+

I just find people get lazy if there is no restriction. A few funny lines makes a film a comedy.

Foreign has been removed, but it cannot be removed from the films that already had it added... until it gets removed from those manually and saved!

Didn't Travis said he would help remove them? I think he just forgot. duck

I think so too, so I stopped worrying about those. But I fix them when I come across them. koala

Well, you have over 5,200 to go! :)

Limiting a movie to 3 genres is trying to put a square peg in a round hole, some films are too complex to be sorted into an arbitrary list of genres where each genre *doesn't carry the same granularity *

Because "Western," "Action," and "Crime" simply don't describe the same level of detail.

Limiting a film to X number of genres only hurts the users who are browsing genres because they enjoy the qualities of that genre and want to discover more films. (I...can't really think of another situation where genres matter 😆)

I understand why streamlining the genre tags can feel like a wonderful place to reduce clutter, but you're ultimately limiting the information available about a film...which sure feels at a right angle to why TMDB exists

That said, is it a fun and ENDLESS exercise to squabble over genres...but I can see how that can be tiring. How MUCH crime needs to be in a film before it gets the CRIME tag? is The Muppet Movie a WESTERN because of ONE SCENE?? etc etc
