Hello,
First of all, your API is awesome!
And secondly, I think there is an issue with alt. titles for movies. Here's an example:
1) http://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/movie?api_key=[apikey]&query=плюмбум
Search shows all-English data, but search is done over Russian movie title.
"original_title" shows English-transliterated Russian title. "original_language" is "en" (which is not correct, but doesn't matter in my case)
2) http://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/movie?api_key=[apikey]&query=плюмбум&language=ru
Now it shows Russian title/description, however "original_title" is still transliterated.
3) http://api.themoviedb.org/3/movie/204039/alternative_titles?api_key=[apikey]
Main issue is here: Russian title is transliterated, which is not correct. And obviously you have proper string in database, as search and "language=ru" both work correctly.
I can see this happening with more Russian movies that I've checked, so it's some sort of a systematic error or data inconsistency.
Thank you.
P.S. Also, could you please clarify, what's your HTTP error code for rate limited queries?

Hi agrmbl,
Alternative titles are not used in any way for the translated data (the data you're requesting by using
language=ru
). Alternative titles are only a means to add extra titles for things like common misspellings, working titles, and things like that.original_title
should always be in the original language of the movie, which should be tied to theoriginal_language
field. The only translated fields you will get back will be thetitle
andoverview
fields. It might help if you looked at the edit page for the movie, so you can see the separation of data: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/204039-plyumbum-ili-opasnaya-igra/edit?active_nav_item=primary_facts&language=ru-RU
If any of the data is incorrect than you can of course make the necessary edits to fix it.

Thanks for the reply.
So that means that
original_language
is wrong for these movies I guess (andoriginal_title
too as a result). Is there a method to get translated titles for a movie without resorting to re-querying "language" parameter?

It very well could be, I don't honestly know. If it's a Russian movie than yes, it's wrong.
No, not really. I've created a new ticket to think about this here.
Oh, and we return a 429 on rate limited requests.

Well, as a Russian I can confirm they are wrong. :)
Thank you very much! I'd greatly appreciate this, as i use local titles extensively.

If you should come across any locked incorrect titles, just report them and a moderator will fix it for you.
