Problem with errors using the examples provided in the documentation

Using the following URL https://www.themoviedb.org/genre/movie/list&api_key=xyz returns the "We can't find the page you're looking for You've tried to request a page that doesn't seem to exist. If you believe this to be in error, let us know on the forums." error. Am I using the correct base URL?

Are you trying to call the API? If so, you have the wrong URL. You're looking for:
