The Movie Database Support Forum

In experimenting with the API I have found in some of the search returns there are films that are not what I would consider legit and/or duplicates.

For example, if I search for Star Wars as you would imagine plenty of results are returned and quite often some of the returns are not official. In the case of Star Wars then the Despecialized Editions are returned that either have zero additional data and are in effect the very same film.

So when searching is there a way I can filter out what I would consider non official films?

Right now the only way I can think to do it would be to check against the production companies field but as this data is not returned on the initial search it would mean iterating through the array making unnecessary API calls to check each and every item returned.

Ah, I was wondering what the policy was on this because from my personal perspective I don't think they make sense to be here. In regards to Star Wars those Despecialized edition are fan edits and are supposed to represent the original cinema release version before Lucas added all the special effects. Either way, they are fan edits.

As and when I come across them I will report them.
