The Movie Database Support

Hi,

I am trying to enrich data for Netflix, and I need support for all countries Netflix offers a service in. If you are on Android and live in Canada, you can test the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.ypg.converse . I will add support for all other countries when I can resolve this issue :)

Ok so, when I search for a movie for which I have a title in Portuguese (Brazil), for example the movie "Set Up" which is titled "Sem Lei" in Brazil, I get two results but I have no possible way to know which one is correct.

https://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/movie?query=Sem+lei&year=2011&api_key={API_KEY HERE}

Could it be possible to append "alternative titles" to the movie search response; this way I could figure out with one is the right one. Thanks.

Hi mlegris,

We don't have any way of getting the functionality you're looking for with the way the API is designed right now. I'm aware of this limitation and it is something that will need a whole new implementation for I think (ie. a v4).

Hi Travis,

thanks for the response. Is your API open source? maybe I could code it? Been coding for 20 years, I'm sure there is a way ;)

danke

Hi mlegris,

Unfortunately, no, it is not. The problem originates at ElasticSearch, it's a significant re-factor to get the change you're looking for :D

mm refactoring regularly is good, otherwise I find I get stuck in patterns and hold back on my ideas. which sucks. but I see what you are saying. What's the stack?

Yup, it is but my time is limited and re-factoring search is not in the cards right now.

TMDb is primarily Ruby, MongoDB and ElasticSearch. We've recently introduced some Lua into the stack (via OpenResty) and are super impressed with it. There's likely a few of our services that will be re-written in Lua now.
