production_code - what value can be returned?

I haven't found an episode where this value was not null... What type of values can one expect (ints, chars, etc.)?

It can really be anything so I think a string field would suit it best.

Sorry for necroing an old thread, but I wanted to know the same thing. There's a wikipedia article about production codes.
Basically, they're episode identifiers assigned by some studios. They are mostly short ASCII sequences of 10 characters or less, but as there is no universal standard, there are no guarantees.
