What is wrong with the search function, it never finds any movies eg. "The International (2009)" typed into the search box [http://www.themoviedb.org/] will get you the result [We didn't find any movies that matched your query of The International (2009).]When I know there is [http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/4959-the-international]

We don't support searching with that type of year declaration/syntax.
Searching for "The International" will work just fine:
https://www.themoviedb.org/search/movie?query=the+international
Or, if you insist on searching with a year, do it like so "The International y:2009" ie:
https://www.themoviedb.org/search/movie?query=the+international+y:2009

Are you referring to the fact that the movie results aren't first? Click "Movies" on the left sidebar... Search results are ordered by most results found.
