The Movie Database Support

I noticed that the genres list on the website seem to be in some sort of order (e.g. Inception: Action / Thriller / Science Fiction / Mystery / Adventure). When I do a standard API request I get the same list of genres but sorted alphabetically. What does the sorting mean? Is there a way to get the sorted list?

There's no explicit sort at this time. Even on the website, genre orders can end up getting reset.

There has been some talk about allowing a sort, and if we ever decide to support that it will be represented on the API.
