Sometimes The Movie Database will report an IMDB validation error with one or more films even though the IMDB IDs are different (or non-existent in some cases). This confuses users because the validation error is telling them the IMDB ID is already taken, but the IMDB IDs are actually different.
Fixing this is the same procedure as described in the knowledge base.

And if the IMDB ID text box is locked (for the one to be changed), what should be done?

In that scenario use the report link so a moderator can fix it.
