As explained here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(franchise)#Series_history
I just wanted to post this first in case someone disagrees and wants to make their case because I am not sure if this is one giant film series like Friday the 13th, or if it's three as Wikipedia and the Godzilla wiki mention.

I have all of those movies, and I watched them sometime ago. As I remember them, I do not feel any lack of continuity. The Wikipedia analysis is interesting as an academic work about the Godzilla's universe, but I do not think that it applies to organizing a Collection of movies.
Namely, I do not agree that 1984 marked a revamp, as if it was a reboot - it was not, in my opinion. The 1984 movie simply seems to be out of place, that's all - but we can forgive that. The flavour of the movies which followed went back to the usual Godzilla stories. Sure there was some improvements in the cinematography and in the quality of the scripts, which is quite normal in series which carry on through ages. But the style is always the same: Godzilla is a bully, sometimes he is a bad guy sometimes he is a good guy, sometimes he is dramatic and sometimes he is comic, he roars quite a lot, he throws some sort of energy beam from his mouth, he fights a lot of other monsters. That's all there is to it. And he does that since 1954 until 2004.
All this becomes more evident when we compare those japanese movies with Roland Emmerich's Godzilla (1998). The contrast is so violent that the TOHO movies really seem to be all in the some bucket, all of them. The TOHO style is so well preserved throughout the series that even the 1990's movies are more similar with the 1950's movies, then they are with Roland Emmerich's. Impressive! If there were any attempts to renew the series, they simply failed... :-) :-) :-)
So, my suggestion, and of course this is just a suggestion, is that the Godzilla Films be left together.

Alright. I will leave the collection as it is.
