For starters, let's just say 1923 is a fantastic show. The setting is faithfully recreated, the acting wonderfully done, and it's well-written.
It does, however, feel a bit 'Game of Thrones' in that it starts off with a ton of action in the pilot and then feels like a very long prelude to the season two finale, and in between, you watch these characters tortured in various ways over and over again. The bad things pile one on top of the other and that's a tad tough to watch, as the writers are great at making you care about these characters.
The other reviewer took issue with the depiction of the Catholic Church, but it should be noted, the depiction of the Catholic Church in 1923 is accurate and the church did (and does) exactly what is depicted. Nothing here is unfair, and some of what you see still occurs today. Personally, I am glad 1923 didn't dull down the historical content to assuage religious people.
Chances are you will enjoy this show immensely, just know it takes a while to get there.
