I wonder if he was. I read an article in the early 1980s showing Alan Alda of radical Mash (see my postings) to be that but the article was written in 1981 a year after Hawaii Five-O went off the air on the same network.

I thought Peter Falk was the highest paid actor for Columbo during it's first run.

Falk only brilliantly played Columbo 7 years. And one TV movie in 68 along with suave acting great Gene Barry and beautiful and appealing Katherine Justice. That leaves like about 8 years he played Columbo vs Lord's 12 years as McGarrett.

You are right. He earned $300,000 per episode (maybe more), & $600,000 when it returned in 1989.

As for Jack Lord, he was paid about $5,000 per episode for Hawaii 5-0.

5000 1968 dollars is over 42000 today. I am sure Mr. Lord was paid way more than that by 1980. I just was wondering if Mr. Lord was just for a short time the highest paid actor on TV. Not the highest paid actor on TV of all time. I knew he was not that at all!

It's still NOWHERE close to what Peter Falk made during the same time.

And of course Columbia was 6 or 7 TV movies a season not 22.
