He made Turner Classic Movies SO much more than just a movie channel.

I recall when TCM started up and he first hosted. I will miss him, his knowledge and his interviews so much. R.I.P.

RIP, Mr. Osborne.
Robert Osborne was like everyone's grandfather; you'd see him hosting on TCM, and everything felt safe and alright. So many fond memories of watching primetime broadcasts and Silent Sunday Night movies intro'd and outro'd by our old "friend" Bob. He will definitely be missed. Fortunately, he'll live on, besides in our memories, also via his intros on a number of TCM Presents DVDs/Blu-rays, and through his written histories, articles, etc.

What a gentleman he was.

Yes, I loved Robert's outros to the movies when he'd give immensely knowledgeable commentary about actors and events from those movies.

I feel the same sadness and loss as I did when Alistair Cooke passed away. Both men were such insightful, intellectual and engaging hosts. PBS' Masterpiece hasn't been the same without Cooke and TCM won't be the same without Osborne.
Nobody can compare to Osborne, with his vast knowledge of the movie business and all of the personalities involved, and nobody can fill his shoes. He'll be missed by millions of classic film fans.

Count me among those who will miss him. I agree with you on Masterpiece Theater, as well.

It seems odd imagining TCM with Mr. Osborne no longer a current and continuing part of it. He will remain long remembered and tremendously appreciated.
Here's the link to his Find A Grave memorial.

I just finished watching TCM's excellent 2014 Private Screenings: Robert Osborne extensive interview and retrospective. What a special and beautiful tribute to the man, particularly now that he's gone. That special serves as the ideal memoriam to Mr. Osborne.

I hope Private Screenings: Robert Osborne is shown again soon genplant29. I missed it but my husband caught the end and really enjoyed it -- and he's not even a big TCM fan like I've been.
I have to say the new hosts plus Ben Mankiewicz are doing a good job, but it's just not the same without Mr. Osborne. It would be hard for anyone to fill his shoes though...

Surprisingly, though I was an avid TCM viewer in 2014, I somehow missed ever seeing that special back then (or ever, till now), so was really glad to see it turn up anew as re-airing this morning.
Yes: Although there's other good talent on TCM, Robert Osborne was, and always will be, "Mr. TCM".
