He's been Superman, Henry VIII's best mate, Geralt of Rivia, and he even screen tested for Bond. Now he is to be the victim of a shameless appeal: Henry Cavill – be my pal.

I've been a journalist for some years now, and with this gig I've had the privilege to chat to some fascinating folks – peers of the realm, dazzling academics, brave cancer survivors, and even the odd Cabinet Minister.

Yet there is a particular gentleman with whose company I have not yet been blessed, and to spend an afternoon chewing the fat with him would be nothing less than my Holy Grail. A chap who puts the 'and-some' in handsome, Henry Cavill is far more than just a sickeningly good-looking bloke that my betrothed would justifiably push me down the stairs to get near.

Mr C ticks so many boxes of 'winner at life' that it is impossible not to be both impressed and insanely jealous with regard to the specimen that is. And on top of this, he seems like a genuinely nice and likeable guy

Yet for all of his virtues, there is one that for me is sacred above all others, and indicative that we may in fact share the same spirit animal. Just like me, Henry Cavill is a massive dork.

Head nerd of the whole herd, Cavill has an adoration of spending hour after hour gaming on his custom-built PC that is well documented, and his visit earlier this year to Nottingham's Warhammer World ('Nerdvana' in excelsis) was a web-busting Instagram delight for those of us who would rather revel in Rivendell than live it up in the Love Island villa.

Relatively famously in the telly-fan underworld, Big H actively pursued the geek dream role of Geralt in Netflix fantasy smash The Witcher with brazen fanboy ferocity from the moment that whispers of its production began to surface. His persistence and passion paid off, with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich supposedly being unable to get Cavill's voice out of her head even after seeing over 200 other actors.

Handsome Henners was the chosen one, and despite having long since earned his nerd stripes as the Son of Jor-El (Superman himself) on the big screen, he became the now truly undisputed geek poster boy of the world. It is a badge he seems to wear with pride, and I love him for it.

Being a somewhat nerdy kid at school, I never dreamed that in years to come my 'people' would have an ambassador that would break the stereotype attached to us so brilliantly, and prove to the rest of the planet that table-top gamers can indeed appear on the cover of GQ, and that deciding your fate with the role of a 12-sided die can be sexy.

So here and now, shelving all decorum and (let's be honest) holding out only a little hope, I'd like to gleefully extend an invitation…

Henry Cavill, you give hope to every spotty lad in the land that one day that comic collection, shelf full of figurines and water-cooled leviathan of a home computer system might just lead to a life of Hollywood glory. And we salute you, sir.

While the media gushes over Michael Fassbender’s secret Ibiza nuptials with Alicia Vikander and their new home in Lisbon, dark #MeToo-style allegations from the actor’s past have been relegated to social media.

In her March Vogue cover, Tomb Raider actress Vikander referenced her domestic bliss with Fassbender, telling the magazine, “I feel I’m more happy and content than I’ve ever been.”

Yet the newlywed Fassbender was a no-show at the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony. While other alleged abusers walked the red carpet in all black, triggering social media backlash over their perceived hypocrisy, Fassbender appears to have simply opted out. Vikander, who was a presenter at the ceremony, arrived, posed for photos, and did E! interviews alone. In keeping with the Time’s Up initiative, Vikander wore black.

Fassbender may have avoided the Golden Globes and a flurry of think pieces, but allegations of domestic abuse have silently trailed him in recent years.

The domestic abuse allegedly occurred in 2010, just two years before Fassbender made his X-Men debut as Magneto and gave an award-winning performance in the critically acclaimed Shame. 

While the 2010 report landed right before Fassbender’s mainstream success, it came after Inglourious Basterds—and was promptly ignored and seemingly forgotten by journalists, A-list directors, and Hollywood executives alike.

Fassbender has never commented on the accusations from his former girlfriend Sunawin “Leasi” Andrews, then a 36-year-old aspiring model and actress.

Fassbender, who has wrestled with the misogyny and violence of some of his troubled characters in print, has seemingly never been asked to comment on his own past.

But a petition filed in court by Andrews and obtained by The Daily Beast tells a different story: one where Fassbender, on separate occasions, was alleged to have dragged her alongside a car and broke her nose.

Reached by phone, Andrews declined to comment on the story and referred a Daily Beast reporter to her court filings.

“You’ve got the paperwork. What more is there to say?” she said.

According to court filings, Andrews filed for a restraining order against Fassbender in Los Angeles County in March 2010, requesting the actor stay at least 100 yards away from her, and her then-18-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.

She also sought attorneys’ fees, nearly $24,000 to pay her medical bills (allegedly arising from injuries she suffered at Fassbender’s hands), and requested Fassbender enroll in a 52-week batterer intervention program.

In her petition, she listed the “date of most recent abuse” as Nov. 18, 2009. But in her narrative of the encounter, she wrote that she visited a hospital on Nov. 29. (Her medical bills, submitted in the filings, note a Nov. 29 date of service. It’s unclear whether Nov. 18 was a clerical error on her part, or if she sought medical attention 11 days later.)

One disturbing episode allegedly occurred when Fassbender, Andrews, and two friends dined at a restaurant. According to Andrews, Fassbender became enraged when one of her ex-boyfriends approached their table to say hello.

“Michael was drinking and became angry,” Andrews wrote, adding that, when it was time to leave, her worried friends followed them home. “Michael was driving my car dangerously fast and screaming at me. I begged him to stop the car in fear of an accident or for my children who were home asleep,” Andrews continued. “As we got closer to my house I put my car in stop. Got out walked around the car to pull key from ignition. Michael drove of[f] dragging me along from the car.”

Andrews claimed that Fassbender “stopped after he realized I could not walk and got out of car. He picked me up and put me in car as my friends pulled up behind us. They stayed the night to help calm things.” She woke on Nov. 29 “in a deep sweat and pain with vaginal bleeding,” her petition states. “I went to the hospital and had a twisted left ankle, blown out left knee cap and a bursted ovarian cyst,” Andrews continued. “Lots of internal bleeding.”

Andrews detailed a second alleged incident at a film festival in July 2009. While she doesn’t name the event, Andrews was most likely referring to the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest 2009 in Ischia, Italy.

The actress claimed in her petition that Fassbender attacked her after a night of boozing at a festival “ceremony,” court papers reveal.

Andrews alleged she went to bed but Fassbender continued partying until the wee hours before returning to their hotel. “He entered the room with a friend at about 5 a.m. drunk and they tried to get into bed with me,” Andrews noted in her petition, adding that she checked into another room, apparently to catch some sleep away from them.

The next morning, Andrews returned to wake Fassbender for a panel. According to the schedule of events for the 2009 festival, Fassbender was slated to appear at a 10 a.m. Movie Educational Seminar on Thursday, July 16—the morning after an 11 p.m. Dinner Party with Award Ceremony “to follow.”

Fassbender was allegedly a mess when Andrews found him.

“He was sleeping in urine,” she wrote in her court filing. “I woke him and he began to be violent and threw me over a chair, breaking my nose.”

According to the court record, a judge granted a temporary restraining order that called for Fassbender to move out of the couple’s Bel Air home, which she said was leased in her name. The court made the ruling based on Andrews’ claims that Fassbender was currently out of the country and therefore not living there, records show.

Aside from a short TMZ piece, there was a 2010 article in the Irish Mail on Sunday digging into Fassbender’s accuser.

After hailing Fassbender’s streak of high-profile roles, the article wasted no time impugning Andrews’ credibility.

The Irish Mail declared that Fassbender’s “status as Ireland’s hottest young star was placed in jeopardy” by Andrews’ “string of lurid allegations.” “Leasi, a model, claimed that the Killarney man attacked her in a drunken rage after a film festival, breaking her nose and causing her to fear for her two young children,” the article stated.

The report went on to attack Andrews, smearing details of her “seedy past” across the page.

“However the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal that the woman who is threatening the 32-year-old Irishman’s reputation and, indeed, his very livelihood, is herself a woman with a troubled and somewhat seedy past. The model has had a string of lovers including an internet porn baron and a married man; she has children by different fathers, her first as an 18-year-old; and her early years were spent posing for ‘erotic’ lesbian pictures.”

The unabashedly victim-shaming article concluded, “Nor was it the only instance of domestic violence in Miss Andrews’s chequered past. Indeed, much of her history seems to suggest that, either she suffers from a persecution complex—or else she genuinely brings out the worst in men.”

When contacted again by The Daily Beast, Andrews said the negative reports were inaccurate and that she’d been targeted by a smear campaign. She was a swimsuit and lingerie model and film and TV actress, but never did X-rated work, she said.

According to one 2009 report, Andrews and Fassbender met when she visited her ex, producer Lawrence Bender, on the set of Inglourious Basterds in Germany. A 2006 article in the Seattle Weekly offered more details on the past that the Mail on Sunday alluded to.

In 2005, Andrews reportedly obtained a one-year restraining order against her then-boyfriend, Seth Warshavsky, otherwise known as “the Bill Gates of porn.” Andrews, who was 25 at the time, claimed “[Warshavsky] choked her during a limousine ride in Las Vegas last fall and has physically attacked her in front of her 6-year-old child.” According to court documents, Andrews accused Warshavsky of “stalking her home” and threatening “to have my baby’s father killed.” While Warshavsky insisted that the civil action was “just a frivolous restraining order in an attempt to extort money, and is in the process of being dropped,” the order was renewed for another year, according to the Seattle Weekly.

The pressures of maintaining a screen ready physique can be brutal at times, especially when your lack of physical shape to play James Bond earns a comment from your would-be director. Believe it or not, out of all the people in the world to have that experience, in a role that almost saw actors like Cary Grant and Burt Reynolds cast in its lead, Henry Cavill was once told he was too chubby to play 007.

Revealed in a recent magazine interview that Cavill participated in, the once (and future?) Superman recalled the following details from a meeting with Casino Royale director that didn’t go as well as planned:

“I probably could have prepared better. I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, ‘Looking a little chubby there, Henry.’ I didn’t know how to train or diet. And I’m glad Martin said something, because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better.”

During our interview on the press day for Memory, Martin Campbell told CinemaBlend a different story, which started with the reason why Henry Cavill apparently didn’t make the cut:

“I did test him for Bond, as you know. He did a very good test, [but] he was too young, and also he wasn’t as experienced as Daniel … Daniel just fitted the part from being a superb actor, and probably the best actor amongst them all.”

The director of both Goldeneye and Casino Royale, Campbell has without question established himself as a trusted participant in the 007 franchise. Constantly invited to return through Pierce Brosnan’s era, his instincts were to reject such a notion until Daniel Craig’s first outing. When we previously spoke in an interview, Martin Campbell gave very specific reasons for why he skipped the rest of the Brosnan movies, which only further highlighted his instincts.

Here is the original Men’s Health interview where HC said that. He didn’t say he lost the role because he was chubby/fat/out of shape. He was talking about terrible auditions and he mentioned two. The first one was… like… to show how uncertain auditions and acting are? The second one was to show how it helped him… like… silver lining?

Then… the writer says that HC recalls being the 002 choice for 007 and continues that it was the beginning of a long run that positioned him as runner-up.

HC once said something about editorial liberties, nuances and context. He was talking about the interviewer of another interview. Here, other outlets change what was written in the original article.

Speaking of Legendary, remember on TFT when stans and haters were discussing whether NV was in London or not? The BD pic that NV posted in 2021 was supposedly fake or old. On this board, the old gay hag claimed London was hot, but it wasn’t.

Anyway, haters said people saw NV in LA. Stans were sure NV was in London and the pics were real and/or not old. NV didn’t get fired, but she was working remotely for Legendary.

Suddenly, a very sus account appeared to tell the stans and haters that NV was in London. She was on a one year paid leave. She was just finishing some stuff at Legendary to start at another company when her paid leave was over. The stuff at Legendary didn’t require her to be in LA.

One year later, we are in May again and NV announces her new job. Wel, wel, wel. I’ll be damned. The very sus account was either a good guesser/tarot card reader or it knew exactly what was going on. Haters didn’t believe the sus account. Even stans had doubts, because a one year paid leave sounded too long. That and the fact that the account never posted again. It only posted on one thread and that thread got deleted, because of the heated arguments. So you can’t even check if the account still exists. At least, I don’t know how to do that on SHM, TFT or here on TMDB.

I read that the producers didn’t know whether to stay thirties or to go very young (origin story). That’s why they auditioned actors in both age groups. That’s kind of confirmed by the fact that DC and HC were the two last contenders. But the producers decided to stay thirties and that was the reason HC lost, not because he was pudgy, inexperienced or too good looking.

Again, the producers don’t know who to cast. Older (50)/mature (thirties)/rookie, white/POC, male/female. Broccoli said, as long as she’s producer, JB will be male and British in a film made for theatrical release. She didn’t say anything about age or race.

People did nothing in the past. Now they want to make things right by overdoing the political correctness. You can’t say anything now. They’ll cancel you for every little offense to show that they’re really against things like that.

What was said can be manipulated by not showing what was asked and/or by quoting only parts of what was said.

Some think Martin Campbell is contradicting himself in the following interviews. IMO, he’s not. In the Latino Review interview, MC was asked a clear Q. In the Cinema-Blend interview, the convo led to him revealing he used to have reservations about Daniel Craig.

The truth is that I think with the style of movie that Pierce, he's last one for example I think with the gadgets, the invincible car the huge sort of ice palaces, the kind of water skiing off or should I say snow boarding...I mean I just thought it got preposterous and then finally the 747 going down in a massive amount flames that goes on forever. I think they got to a point where you couldn't go any more than that. It was getting to ridiculous.

Latino Review: Why is Daniel Craig the best choice to play Bond?

Martin Campbell: Because first of all he's a terrific actor, and I think it's on Casino Royale were Fleming always said he looked like Hoagy Carmichael, which is a very interesting and he is a very interesting looking guy and I think he has all the attributes to make a much grittier and tougher Bond. Latino Review: How close is the film going to mirror the book?

Martin Campbell: The second half of the book is very close. The first half isn't and when you read you'll understand why. It's because it's set in the Cold War and the organizations the Russian secret service they have a man in France who they send money to in order to disrupt the union, its very much about the Cold War. It was written in 1953 so obviously that's changed because there is no Cold War. But the rest is going to be pretty much intact, The whole game takes place; Le Chiffre is the bad guy, your genital whacking scene that all remains, so the last two thirds of the movie will be like the book. And then Bond will fall in love with Vesper Lynd as he does in the book. This is the last book that they are filming because they have done all of them.

Latino Review: How much leeway do you have in this film? And how much involvement is the Broccoli family in it?

Martin Campbell: Well they're (Broccoli) great actually. I did GoldenEye and they pretty much gave me my head on that we all incorporated on the script, we all liked the script. This time we definitely wanted to go back to more realistic Bond. More like From Russia With Love, more kind of creditable if you will and that's the directive and that's why we've cast Daniel Craig. I think it definitely needs a change in direction.

Latino Review: There were a lot of rumors on who was going to play Bond and what not. Who actually was in contention for the role?

Martin Campbell: We had that very young chap named Henry Cavill who was really good but I think at the end he was too young, he's 22. But Henry believe me he is going to be a big talent, very good looking, very strong physically and a good actor but he's too young for this Bond basically that was it. When he gets a little more acting experience under his belt he'll be terrific.

Latino Review: Was he the only on in the running for the role?

Martin Campbell: He was the only serious one in the running, yeah.

During the promotion of his latest film, the Maggie Q action thriller The Protégé, I had the honor of speaking with Mr. Campbell on behalf of that work in particular. But when you’re sitting down with the man who helped update the James Bond franchise twice over, it’s too tempting of a prospect to not discuss the progress of this worldwide cultural touchstone. And as part of that conversation, Martin Campbell revealed not only his reservations about Daniel Craig’s initial casting, he also gave massive credit to the 007 decision maker who really believed in his potential from square one:

“Barbara Broccoli, who’s one of the producers, she’s Cubby’s daughter. The two producers are Barbara Broccoli, and her half-brother, Michael G. Wilson. Both terrific producers. And she was the one that really pushed for Daniel Craig, her instincts were 100% correct. … So it was Barbara [that] was the one who really championed that, quite correctly, and he turned out to be a terrific Bond.

“Even at the time I had certain reservations, only because there was no doubt he was a terrific actor. He was a superb actor. But of course I’d been brought up in the tradition of Connery, and Roger Moore, and Pierce, all great looking guys. You know, there was a stereotype, if you see what I mean, with those three characters. And Daniel, of course, is much more like Ian Fleming’s conception of that part. I think it was Hoagy Carmichael he said would be the perfect Bond. He was a Bond for the time, basically whenever we started. I think in 2006 we made Casino [Royale], and he was just perfect for the complete reboot, to be honest. Which was much more reality based.”

I know that pic. Of course, at 22 or 39, HC is gorgeous. But I wouldn’t call 22 HC hot, though. I’ll call 39 yo HC hot.

“Amber Heard was not likeable and she was not credible,” said Rahmani, who believes the jury saw through Heard’s claims about facts not pertaining to abuse. He said the “Aquaman” actress “exaggerated injuries” and lied about “donating the $7 million she received to charity when she didn’t. Leaking the video to TMZ and tipping them off — she claimed that it didn’t happen when it was obvious it did.”

During the trial, executives from the ACLU and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles testified that Heard has yet to deliver the full amounts she pledged to the organizations from her divorce settlement.

Additionally, Heard’s attorneys claimed they had a mountain of evidence that Depp was abusive. However, Rahmani said pictures shown in court didn’t match the description of the injuries she described. “So, the jurors punished her and they punished her by rejecting all of her claims,” Rahmani said.

The jury awarded Depp $10 million for compensatory damages and $5 million for punitive damages. Although, Judge Penney Azcarate said Depp’s punitive damages would be capped, “In accordance with law, I will amend the award to the statutory cap of $350,000 for Depp’s award.”

The jury found that Heard defamed Depp and acted with malice when she wrote, “I spoke up against sexual violence and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” They also decided that Depp was defamed by Heard’s statement, “Then two years ago I became a public figure representing domestic abuse and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”

Still, the jury agreed with Heard that Depp’s former attorney Adam Waldman was acting as an agent of the “Donnie Brasco” actor when he told the Daily Mail, “Amber Heard and her friends in the media used fake sexual violence allegations as both the sword and the shield.” Jurors found the statement was defamatory and awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages but gave her zero for punitive damages.

Rahmani said he believes Heard’s testimony ultimately tanked her case. “I don’t know if it was her narcissism, I don’t know if it was bad legal advice, I don’t know if it was her PR team not wanting her to admit anything but she took this very extreme position and I think the jury rejected her testimony outright,” Rahmani said.

Depp, meanwhile, appeared “very likeable, vulnerable and genuine,” in Rahmani’s opinion.

In Rahmani’s opinion, Depp’s rebuttal witnesses were the strongest including Kate Moss, LAPD officers who responded to a call for help but didn’t see signs of abuse and the Seattle airport officer who testified Heard was being abusive towards her ex. “Those are sort of independent witnesses that jurors say, hey this isn’t someone that’s Heard’s sister, this isn’t someone that’s on Depp’s payroll they don’t have a vested interest in the case and those tend to be the most credible witnesses,” Rahmani said.
