Discuss Henry Cavill

A thread for MI6.

While discussing the sixth film in the franchise, "Mission: Impossible — Fallout," at CinemaCon on Wednesday, Cruise detailed one of the film's action sequences, in which Cruise's Ethan Hunt jumps from a plane at nearly 30,000 feet to catch Henry Cavill's free-falling character.

To get the three shots that he and director Christopher McQuarrie (who returns after directing "Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation") wanted, Cruise jumped out of a C-17 plane 106 times.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but that character won’t come back. If it does, then the next MI should be called Mission: Impossible – Resurrection or Mission: Impossible – The Frankenstein Project.

CMcQ can bring HC back, if he decides to tell us why AW and SL went rogue. AW already died. Now SL should die. This is a good way for CMcQ to close his MI trilogy. Going back in time will also make MI7 different from the other MI films. MI7 should be a mixture of past and present, not just a few brief flashbacks.

Btw, I honestly don’t understand why someone so noble as EH keeps working for the IMF. The IMF was working with the White Widow and the Apostles. These people were going to kill many innocent French policemen to get a criminal (SL). How can you work for an organization capable of heinous things like that? If EH could come up with a way to get LS without killing anybody, so could the IMF. But the IMF just don't give a damn. So to me, they're no better than any other criminal organization.

MI7 should have four stunts. I’m thinking (1) jet-ski and waterfall.

TC on top of a mountain covered with snow and he can choose skis, a snowboard or a motor sledge to come down.

Dangerous mountain, no snow, motorcross bike.

TC rides a bicycle down a steep, bumpy ravine.

TC rides a three wheel motorcycle up a not so steep but very bumpy ravine. rofl

So TC should die making MI7? In that case… thinking

In MI5 he was hanging off the a side of an ascending plane. Well, in MI7 he’ll be holding on to a submerging submarine.

I’m not exactly crazy about TC, but I do love the MI franchise. MI6 was a 147 minutes roller coaster. I want TC to make a few more MI films like that. So l don’t want him to freaking die making MI7!!!!! rofl

With a business of Rs 77 crore in the Indian market, Mission: Impossible -- Fallout proved the franchise name, stunts and more importantly, the lead star Tom are enough to help the movie Cruise straight into the hearts of the audience.

While Fallout’s earnings indicate the 22-year phenomenon shows no signs of fatigue, there is also no denying its predecessors did their share to keep the franchise a box office success.

In 2015, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the fifth one of the MI series recorded a phenomenal opening weekend in India. It collected Rs 42 crore and went on to make Rs 78.72 crore.

Riding on the back of its brand name, the first three parts of the franchise had minted Rs 7.59 crore, Rs 15 crore, and Rs 23 crore. And Ghost Protocol, the fourth installment in MI series changed everything. While stunts have always been a vital component of Mission, Ghost Protocol took the idea of an action set piece to the next level with the showstopping Burj Khalifa sequence and with Tom Cruise doing it for real.

There is no denying that each film from the MI franchise is putting in all efforts to entertain at the highest level of quality possible with Fallout sealing the deal and also making Mission: Impossible probably today’s best movie franchise.

The sixth instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, titled Fallout has emerged a huge hit in India and found a place in the list of top 10 Hollywood films of all time.

Unlike the previous films from the Mission: Impossible franchise that were front loaded but failed to show a positive trend on weekdays, this film recorded a good trend at the Box-Office, and emerged the highest grossing film from the franchise in India in merely 7 days.

Fallout raked in Rs 55 crore in its opening week thereby surpassing the lifetime collections of Rogue Nation, which collected Rs 48 crore in India.

The movie will end up being the 7th biggest Hollywood film of all time in India in terms of “Nett Box-Office Collections”, however the numbers would have been even better had the film released in 3D.

Top 15 Hollywood Films in India:

  1. Avengers: Infinity War: Rs 227.43 crore
  2. Jungle Book: Rs 188 crore
  3. Fast and Furious 7: Rs 105 crore
  4. Jurassic World: Rs 101.00 crore
  5. Fast and Furious 8: Rs 86.23 crore
  6. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: Rs 82.60 crore
  7. Mission: Impossible – Fallout: Rs 74.00 crore and counting
  8. Avengers: Age of Ultron: Rs 73.06 crore
  9. 2012: Rs 63.75 crore

I will say though, that Henry said that he’s been collecting the mustache memes.

MCQUARRIE: Oh, God. Well first of all, we got a helicopter chase. We got a HALO jump. We got a car chase through Paris, motorcycle chase through Paris. Henry Cavill grows a mustache and cocks his arms, and gets more traction, right? Out of like, it’s not even a fake mustache that I had to pay for, the guy just grew it. He did this for free. It didn’t cost anything. And if you think about that—’cause friends will send you trailer reactions of people watching the trailer, and Henry cocks his arms, and everybody screams like a murder is happening, and at no point does it … Tom Cruise is flying a helicopter! And it’s real! And Henry just does this. Milking a cow. So, sorry, where were we? My first tangent of the night.

When you were on the set, and we’re gonna get into the bathroom scene soon, but when he did that in the bathroom scene, at that moment, did you have any idea it would be a thing?

MCQUARRIE: It was the reaction videos to the trailers. We couldn’t perceive … like we just thought, “Oh yeah, he just does this thing before he fights.” It was no different than if he had just parted his hair. So yeah, he did it, and you were like, whatever, okay. I mean, there were other things in that fight scene that I was like, “Ha! That’s really funny.” Crickets. The audience doesn’t react to it. You can’t predict it. I mean, most of the big laughs I’ve ever gotten in a movie were not … I’d love to take credit for them, but everything Jeremy Renner did in Rogue Nation that’s funny, is Jeremy Renner. And every funny line I wrote for him just fell flat, and I cut it out of the movie.

A hot air balloon doesn’t sound very death-defying. Unless... TC must jump out of it onto the fastest train in the world. That would be the SCMaglev train in Japan, which has a top speed of 603 km/h (375 mph).

Dare I say it. Mr Davis, I wholeheartedly agree! King Stache returns, dear followers, and soon you will be able to hit pause and admire him to your heart's content. There is also a rather cool stunt in the extras, that we shot on one of my very first days at work in Paris, which is a must watch!

Vulture

Upon the release of Mission: Impossible — Fallout, it feels important to herald the return of bangs that have brought so much joy to so many lives. They enhance every Tom Cruise performance. Bring it? The bangs brought! This hair is bouncy, feathery, and holy. Hallelujah! They are risen. (And by “risen” I mean doing the important work of flatly covering his Tom Cruise’s forehead, jumping or swaying at just the right moment, leaving your heart aflutter.)

They were so freaking hot. Lots of actors had long hair in the ’90s, but Cruise grew these thick, luscious bangs. Here they are in Eyes Wide Shut, giving one of their better performances: slowly falling into his eyes as he interrogates Nicole Kidman about their sex life.

For a while, they got not-hot. The bangs got too big, too fast. The fame went to their heads, so they conjured up a twin. (This did not work.)

Without warning, the bangs left us. They made a quick appearance at the end of Knight and Day, but mostly they stayed home, tucked behind an ear or hidden under a hat. After years of casting calls, Rock of Agesthrew the bangs a little work.

Cruise did his own hair work in the movie, giving the bangs a little time onscreen. … Unfortunately the bandanna also booked for the Stacee Jaxx role, which interfered with the bangs’ screen time substantially.

See, look — the bangs have been cruelly snatched away from us. They’re gone in Jack Reacher!

Where did they go? Why did they leave us? Look at them, nonexistent in Oblivion, probably brushed up and snipped away:

Sure, they overdo it a little in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, but wouldn’t you also overcompensate when you’ve returned to the saddle after a great and long absence?

Henry Cavill’s M:I mustachegets all the attention. But Tom Cruise’s magnificent bangs didn’t come here to make friends — they came here to be the most important supporting actor of our time!

Whoa! I’m speechless. TC's crazy enough on his own. So I’ll keep it simple.

The villain in MI7 or 8 should be a woman. This woman and her female right hand/body guard should both be real martial arts champions so they can beat EH’s butt good. You know, like John Lark did with Hammer and Scapel in MI6. And yes, EH will fight back. It’s either fight or die.

She Knows

In a new essay for the "Women and Power" issue of New York magazine, Kidman opens up about her marriage to Tom Cruise — something she rarely talks about — and admits that being with him for more than a decade kept her safe from the kinds of sexual harassment that blacklisted many of her less-protected peers.

I got married very young, but it definitely wasn't power for me — it was protection."

"I married for love," she continued, "but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed. I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it's almost like I had to grow up."

I love seeing TC on the GN show. rofl And GN loves having TC on his show.

“Someone like Tom Cruise is incredible,” he said. “He comes in and gets introduced to everyone, as happens with every guest, and he remembers everyone’s name. And on the way out he remembers everyone’s name and what they do.”

“Clearly, that is some sort of mental trick, but it’s a very impressive one, and clearly the rest of us aren’t bothered learning it, so that means people backstage love him,” he told the publication.

He said having someone like Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks or Will Smith is particularly exciting, because they “bring that star voltage with them”.
