Why Wonder Woman 1984's Release Date Was Pushed Back

Originally, Wonder Woman 1984 was scheduled for December 2019, but moved up to November of that year when Lucasfilm set Star Wars: Episode IX for a holiday premiere. Now, the studio has switched things up again, pushing 1984 back seven months to June 2020.

WB's official statement on the matter mentioned a "changing competitive landscape," a direct reference to the sheer amount of high-profile titles coming out next fall. In the time after Wonder Woman 1984 was first moved to November 2019, the likes of Terminator 6, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Kingsman 3 all staked claim to prime real estate that month, joining the likes of Frozen 2 and (for now) an untitled Fox/Marvel film.

Wonder Woman 1984 is obviously highly-anticipated and would likely beat any of these in a head-to-head matchup (with the arguable exception of Frozen 2), but the goal with tentpoles is to maximize profits. WB would run the risk of Wonder Woman 2's bottom line being cannibalized by other noteworthy films if it remained in this window.

Especially considering the overwhelming success of the first Wonder Woman in June 2017, it was logical to move the sequel to a similar time frame. Yes, 1984 is going to have to contend with a new Pixar film and Top Gun: Maverick, but it gets a little bit of a head start on those and should dominate the multiplex in the early stages of its run. The studio is clearly trying to replicate the circumstances of the original movie's premiere, hoping the box office results are similar. It'll be interesting to see if Universal opts to move their action film Red Notice (which also stars Gal Gadot) from its June 12, 2020 release date, since audiences will prioritize one Gadot vehicle over another.

New rumor. They pushed WW’s release to heavily rewrite the story. Now they want WW to reboot the DCEU.

Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back a year and a shock new report claims it will be heavily rewritten to reboot the entire DC Extended Universe on screen and change the timelines with Flashpoint, erasing some of the current stars.

Randolph says: “Diana, like all of us, isn’t willing to let Steve go a second time, saves him and therefore alters the timeline. She saves Steve Trevor and reboots the EU?

https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/1036011/Wonder-Woman-film-release-date-Flashpoint-DCEU-Superman-Batman-Flash

The God does bring ST back. That was always part of the story.

SuperBroMovies

As most fans assumed, [Pedro] Pascal does indeed play a villain in the highly anticipated sequel. […] He is a God in disguise, similarly to Ares in the first film, but he’ll affect the story in a much different way. Disguised as a businessman, he makes a deal with Diana that she’ll do his bidding and in exchange, he’ll bring the love of her life back, Steve Trevor.

This not only explains how Steve Trevor returns after his demise in Wonder Woman, but also shines a light on how this could go very wrong. Making a deal with a god is typically a poor decision and almost never ends well.

https://superbromovies.com/2018/09/22/exclusive-details-on-pedro-pascals-character-in-wonder-woman-1984/

The God can bring ST back without telling WW the consequences. The consequences can be shown in a post-credit scene. Just jump to 2013. Instead of a Kryptonian invasion, something worse will happen.

WW rewrite rumor refuted.

YouTuber Grace Randolph released a video where she claimed her sources had informed her that WW 84 was being retooled as a Flashpoint/soft reboot event.

I have to say when I read ab0ut this initially, my skeptic alarm was ringing incessantly. Surely if you are going to do a soft reboot using Flashpoint, you’d, you know, use a Flash movie and not a Wonder Woman sequel that’s already filmed the majority of its content?

Now, TheWrap‘s Umberto Gonzalez has strongly refuted Randolph’s claim on Twitter. Check it out below.

Umberto Gonzalez

Um, no WONDER WOMAN 1984 is NOT a "soft reboot" of the DCEU and is NOT being "restructured" to be the new FLASHPOINT. Those youtube videos saying otherwise are inaccurate, bad, and FALSE!

https://twitter.com/elmayimbe/status/1055168333044047872?

I have to say that given my initial skepticism of the Randolph story I’m inclined personally to side more with Umberto Gonzalez here, and his track record is much more solid than Randolph’s, if we’re looking at raw stats.

What I will say is that if DC/WB are really planning to reboot their universe, then Flashpoint is likely the best way to do it. Though, I still don’t think this would work if all the actors are changed as well. Reboot the stories, yes, reboot the actors, no?

The DCEU has had a rocky start, but if Aquaman is good along with WW 84 and possibly Joker, then do they really need to reboot the whole universe? I’d say they just need to start making better movies and they should absolutely start with making a Man of Steel 2 starring Henry Cavill.

https://lrmonline.com/news/massive-wonder-woman-1984-rumor-strongly-refuted/

I won’t bother watch WW84. Our only successful heroine is hung up over a guy for decades.

According to SuperBroMovies, Pascal is supposed to be a god in disguise, and he strikes a deal with Diana to do his bidding for the price that he will bring back Steve Trevor. The identity of Pascal’s god character is still up in the air, but a lot have been speculating that he’s playing Hades.

Personally, I think they should have just scrapped Steve Trevor and made Diana move along with her life. Sure Chris Pine was very likeable in the first movie, but I think it’s sending the wrong message to little girls that someone should be hung up over a guy for decades even after his death. I guess Diana has to wait until Pixar’s Up comes out in theaters so she can get the message.

Besides, even if Steve did survive somehow, Diana would still outlive him and eventually still watch him grow old and die.

A woman can’t live without a man. A woman must fall in love with the first man she sees. A woman can never forget the first man she slept with. A woman can never get over a man. Are any of the heroes hung up over a woman? No. What the hell is GG and PJ doing?

Ava DuVernay's scope for NG sounds all encompassing.

It sounds like DuVernay's scope for New Gods is all encompassing, not just sticking to the work from Kirby or even the fan-favorite Orion comic from Walt Simonson. It looks like the writer and director is cherrypicking her favorite moments to use for the movie, creating an operatic space epic worthy of the characters.

Justice League: A Call for Heroes

Be the FIRST to see Jason Momoa as Aquaman when his interactive wax figure debuts at Madame Tussauds Orlando on December 4! Designed in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Entertainment, the figure captures every detail from the title character in the feature film Aquaman, which hits theatres on December 21, and is outfitted in the all-new suit designed for the movie.

AM may have worst opening weekend in the franchises

Both Aquaman and Bumblebee are currently projected to have the worst opening weekends in their respective franchises when they premiere in December. This is the first holiday season since 2014 without a new Star Wars movie on the scene, and other studios are looking to take advantage of the lucrative moviegoing period.

Unfortunately, there's only so much money to go around during busy Decembers, and it looks like the similar genre movies are going to cannibalize each other at the box office.

According to Box Office Pro, long-range estimates for Aquaman and Bumblebee are now in. The former is expected to earn between $40-60 million over its first three days, while the latter is projected for $15-25 million.

Aquaman and Bumblebee both debut on December 21, sandwiched between other high-profile offerings like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Mary Poppins Returns.

WB and Paramount were smart about keeping costs down in regards to production budgets. Aquaman's price tag is in the ballpark of $160 million, while Bumblebee's is $102 million. That means they don't necessarily have to break the bank in order to turn a profit, and will likely end up in the black as long as the international numbers are strong.

Having said that, these early estimates illustrate poor management by WB and Paramount. There's seemingly a would-be blockbuster released every week, but studios try to have some breathing room between their big movie and another company's. When two or more movies targeting the same demographic come out in the same weekend, it's harder for one to break out, and not every fan is going to have time to check out both in theaters over the holidays. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but if Aquaman and Bumblebee end up disappointing commercially, the studios will only have themselves to blame.

AM’s TV spot

Warner Bros. has released the first Aquaman TV spot,

The film is their holiday tentpole, and it’s going to have stiff competition from movies like Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee.

As you can see from this TV spot, they’re leaning heavily on the humor to try and sell this as a different beast from previous DCEU movies.

From a traveler’s pov, Florida (Scientology international headquarters/TC’s son, HC’s production company/business partners) could be considered a center point to reach London (HC’s house, TC’s oldest daughter), NY (TC’s youngest daughter)/south-east Canada (HC’s brother (I think)) and LA (film industry).

Birds of Prey Movie Casts Ewan McGregor as DC Villain Black Mask

DC's Birds of Prey movie has cast Ewan McGregor to play the villain Black Mask.

The character's sadistic nature and predilection for torturing his enemies (and victims) makes him a proper tonal match for Birds of Prey, which is described as being a grittier and R-rated DC crime drama that features equally dark crime fighters like Harley Quinn and Huntress as its heroes.

It's also been rumored that Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi Mack) is circling the role of a young Cassandra Cain, who goes on to become one of the versions of Batgirl in the DC comics.

Rather than sticking relatively closely to the source material, this version of the Clown Prince of Crime's origin story is taking a lot of creative liberties, particularly with > Batman not being involved in his transformation. That being said, news has now come in that not only will Bruce Wayne appear in Joker, but so will his trusty butler/confidant, Alfred Pennyworth, played by Dante Pereira-Olson and Douglas Hodge, respectively.

Outside of the eponymous protagonist, who's known as Arthur Fleck before becoming a clown criminal, the only other character from the comics who'd been confirmed for Joker was Thomas Wayne, who's being played Brett Cullen and will be depicted less sympathetically than usual.

You were right! rofl beers

Tom Cruise has put filming for the Top Gun sequel on hold so he can learn to PILOT his jet fighter stunts

“He already has a licence to fly planes but isn’t qualified to fly fighter jets, which he’s now learning to do.

“He won’t film all the flight sequences — it’s too dangerous —  but he will fly some, making him the first actor in cinema history to do so. The producers would prefer not to put their leading man, not to mention their whole film, at risk.

“They also wouldn’t choose to have their long-awaited sequel delayed  nearly a year,  but despite the huge insurance costs they are willing to do what it takes to  ensure Tom is    happy.”

No, I was not. disappointed

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor will not be seen flying any fighter jets in the Top Gun sequel. The report states since civilians are not permitted to use government equipment, especially militarised jets, Cruise cannot just sit on an F/A-18 Hornet and take off to make the movie.

But there is a silver lining in this report. So, what if he won’t be seen in a fighter jet, Cruise will not be grounded in the movie. Given that Cruise is a licensed pilot and he has undergone extensive training for Top Gun 2, he will be seen flying “in certain aircrafts.”
