One poster is complaining about the negativity level of this board, so I’m introducing this topic (a fave in the old IMDB discussion board) that has not been set up here yet. Hopefully it would draw some ‘positivity’.
State your top 3 (or 4 or 5) HC roles, and tell us why.
Let me start with my personal favourites.
Brandon, Duke of Suffolk in the Tudors — HC’s main strengths (his looks and English accent) are taken advantage here greatly. However, the fact that The Tudors is a TV show gave him the opportunity to stretch his acting muscles because his character followed a great trajectory and development in its 4 seasons. It was nice to see his character (and his portrayal) evolve from being a selfish cad to someone more mature, caring and affected by years of war, witnessing Henry VIII’s abuses and having a growing conscience. Definitely, my fave role so far, which is why I think he should find another well-written TV show (be it a Games of Thrones type or even another well-made adaptation of another book).
Theseus in Immortals — Not a big fan of how Tarsem changed the myth (I’m a Greek mythology enthusiast), but HC’s lean looks was quite something! I like his physique here better than his overbulked Superman. His love for his mother in this role was touching.
Randy in Whatever Works — Many fans of his hate this film. But I liked it. HC’s earnest portrayal of a keen very open lover/admirer was cute. I wish he’d star in more romantic comedies.
I am a bit conflicted with Superman. While he looked the part, Snyder’s vision of a more angsty (depressed?) Kal-El is a bit of a turn-off. It doesn’t help I didn’t see the chemistry between him and Amy Adams’ Lois Lane (not a big a fan of Amy’s portrayal of her, but it could be Snyder’s fault again). I would be interested to see if they would somehow build his relationship with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman because I can see the potential chemistry between them (and I am for team Superman and Wonder Woman).

I would havee to go with the Tudors. Maybe I am biased necause I loved the series. @Toni- whatever works, really? I thought he was terrible in it and I didn't like the movie. I only watched it because he was in it. Normally I don't watch Woody Allen movies on principle.

I enjoyed these films mostly not because of Henry.
Count of Monte Cristo
Stardust
Tristan & Isolde
Man from Uncle
Man of Steel
And you know Trisky's right, hardly anything positive is written. Just criticism and negative judgment. Before people type, think- am I only writing something negative?

All of us have equal rights to this site. Anyone could come in here and contribute anything they want, and they still can, as long as they follow the guidelines of this site. And yet, this site has been in existence since Feb, and was hardly active. Just look at the older threads. Hardly anyone has contributed until HC started dating LC. Ask yourself, why hasn’t more people visited or contributed anything back then? Why weren’t other people starting new threads like this one or contributing to the older threads?
Why expect Poetist, Kessa, Watsonjudy or anyone else who contibute here just contribute the stuff you like when any other people can come in here and have their own discussions and contributions? It’s not as if you didn’t know Poetist or some of us who came from IMDB. Most of us kept our old usernames and even mentioned our old names in IMDB when we changed our names here. Did you really think Poetist would change her views about HC when she has been in the ‘He’s gay camp’ for years?
There were other discussion boards that came up after the IMDB closed down, including some that tried to look more than the old IMDB site. I visited some of them and it’s even worse. No one is contributing to the HC discussion page, yet the other topics are busy with people. Why is that? Why do people like yourself and Tricksy not contributing to those boards, but somehow managed to just come here and then be aggressive to the others already contributing here?
The two of you remind me of some posters on the IMDB board that only come up when controversial topics come to the board but are absent when people discuss new movies and have ‘other positive ‘ discussions. Very big on criticising other posts, but quiet when the board is positively talking about his movies or when there are positive threads. They only mysteriously come around when the board is more active talking about something controversial that came up whether it’s a mysterious black eye, rude comments made while drunk or a new gf. They liked having a go at others, lamenting the negativity but never recognised the times when the boards had positive discussions or threads, or even contribute to make new ones that is different from the topics they despise. Could it be because you are acting like fan site moderators? No point joining when the board is just talking positive, but suddenly it’s your mission to join in and try to change the vibe when it doesn’t follow the fan site mold that you prefer?
I’m curious, do you go to other discussion boards, whether similar ones to this one or those that follow a news article, that may be discussing him and try to ensure the topics are only ‘positive’?

I actually like a lot of Woody Allen films. Can’t help it. LOL! Whatever Works is weaker compared to his other films, I admit, but I thought HC looked really good in that film and the pics of him off set looked great. I liked his leaner frame then compared to his bulky frame now. He also had more of the curls you like!

I have too admit I did enjoy Matchpoint with JRM. Love him or hate him, JRM is naturally a very talented actor. The whole thing about Woody Allen marrying his adopted daughter reeks of pedophilia to me though. Yes some of his movies are very good but I do think he is overrated in hollywood. Oh I forgot about Tristan n Isolde, HC looked his hottest in that movie. I love guys with long hair. Yes he was handsome in Whatever Works, but his acting in it fell flat imo as did the whole movie. His body to me looked best in Immortals but he is correct in saying that type of pysique is very diffcult to maintain. It may not even be healthy to have such low body fat as 3%, correct me if i am wrong, but i think that is what he said he got body fat down to.

Toni,
Obviously, anyone can contribute what they want, I'm not trying to control anything. I'm simply stating that it's only negative. Why would you create controversy over my statement? lol. I'm just stating my thoughts. I find most posts negative and full of what seems like a bit of anger. Nothing is positive, it's like most on here don't like him. That is all. I understand it's not a fansite and everyone has different opinions btw but recognize that maybe it's more of a hate site.
BTW I only skimmed your post. I do visit HCNews which is a fansite so they are required to behave.
And I've contributed not only when he is dating someone. I don't know how long you've been on IMDB but I've been on it since EW. Yes it's more interesting when he's dating something but I've given opinions on his films, acting, etc. You're not reading and choosing to see what you want.
I don't write only positive things- for example I think he can't act and makes poor choices in women. But I don't only spew hate. I don't criticize every pic, when he chooses to travel without Kal, his interviews, etc. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but you gotta think, when it's almost 200% negative all the time, then it seems people on here don't like him and like I said, it's more of a hate site- let's rip Henry every which way.

Phoebe, I am very much aware of your activities on the IMDB. You were a flip-flopper on the old IMDB. One minute you would write your own ‘negative’, ‘angry’ posts there and then suddenly you’ll do a 360 degrees, and then delete. How am I supposed to know how long you were on the IMDB when one thing you were consistent in doing was deleting your posts there?
Still curious though, why choose to go to this board if you find it so negative? You could have gone to the other IMDB clones that sprung up and started the discussions there. You knew us from IMDB, so you knew our posts would lean towards the critical side — we question and comment on things a fan site won’t. That’s how it is here. You and your pal are even free to question our criticisms. Do you have the luxury to question how a fan site runs their site? Are you free to post something critical there when you feel like it?
You say that you go to a fan site which you know is going to be 100% positive discussion, but still choose to come here which you know is more critical, then still wish it would be more positive? For real? The fan sites sunshiny stuff isn’t enough for you?

I just noticed there's a question mark. I've explained numerous times why I deleted my posts on IMDb but Henry doesn't visit this board so we're all good. 😉

No, I don’t wake up angry. But I don’t have to be serene and go on a meditative state either when you have your pal there going on some mission to attack everyone for their posts.
And yes, I do have an issue about your statement about the negativity on this board. I don’t actually agree with you and your pal’s assessment that this board is pure negativity, particularly compared to other boards I know (including some that like to talk about Lucy Cork’s past profession and find other reason to hate her). From Feb to June this board was pretty sedate and only picked up a bit when Sandcastles, Nomis and MI6 news and Wonder Woman came out. Around that time Poetist had been starting threads about his projects, interviews and pics — not much takers. I tried to rouse conversations about JL or him in Comic Con. Not much takers either. There were others posting very positive threads like Salt and limes who was even trying to have more activity on this board. Did you and your pal contribute to her threads? Nope. From Feb to June much of the exchanges were civil, then suddenly you get all critical about how things are turning when you know very well that when a new gf comes along that usually sets things off. Your quick to point out our ‘negativity’ but you are quite complacent with Tricksy’s and even support her.
Apart from Poetist — Watsonjudy, KindaDead, Nerdingout, MDBAddict, Salt and Limes, ScarletJohnson have all come over to this site with their old IMDB usernames. (Now we even have JenMitchel.) Kessa (Drayna) and I (Tonifer on IMDB) came here with new names but posted who we were before on IMDB so I am surprised you didn’t know there were several of us here.
And nope, I wasn’t asking why you kept deleting your posts on IMDB, because you have said more than once why you were on IMDB. Just saying I wouldn’t have known how long you were posting in IMDB given you wipe clean your history all the time.
I still do wonder why you still come over when you don’t like the flow of the conversation, can’t stand our nitpicking, our ‘negative’ posts when there are other alternative discussion boards to get over your boredom.

@Kessa89
I haven’t seen Matchpoint. My fave Woody Allen films are Mighty Aphrodite, Midnight in Paris and Smalltime Crooks. My list would probably change once I finally get a chance to see Annie Hall. I also like some of the short stories he wrote.
But I have to agree with you about him going out with his ex-partner’s (Mia Farrow’s) daughter. Talk about being a cheater and cradle snatcher. I do wonder about his current wife’s (Soon-Yi) state of mind when she decided to go out with him. I mean you would have thought she would have been more loyal to Mia who adopted her and Woody isn’t exactly a great looking guy.
I didn’t think his acting was too bad in Whatever Works. It was more atrocious in Laguna, and a bit wooden in I Capture the Castle, but he was very pleasing for the eyes in those movies.
I just wish he’ll just take up a new TV series because he really shined in The Tudors.
In some ways, I like his body the best in Cold Light of Day. Not too lean, but not too bulky either. The movie was bad though. I didn’t mind it too much because I love Spain, the setting for it, but most people hated the movie.

You do know the "good" and the "bad" was there.
You were hoping it would transfer over here, and . . . now you have Triksy aka 18%, the bad. Done!
I'm kind of flattered that I was remembered, but with that said. . .
On occasion, I suffer from CRS (can't-remember-shyt) even so, I have spotted some regulars on this board.
Come on, you love the bitchin'.
Being that we're locals. . . .
We could meet on the weekends to eat pizza and b*tch.
Girl, bye with that! You were the third post and came a guns-a-blazin'. You didn't even wait for the thread to get
negativecritical before you jumped and smearedP.S. Didn't have a horse
in this race, but I have to call a spade a spade.

I think this may be the first time in history that you cracked me up. For reals. I pass on the b*tching, it makes my head feel full. =)
I don't know if I love the bitching, a little bit of drama is entertaining, the negativity though is not the same. If that makes any sense. I think too much Henry ripping, like I said it's like no one likes him even. Oh well.
And there are no other HC forums otherwise my ass be on there.
And Toni,
I don't recall Scarlet or Salt posting here nor JenMitchel. I didn't realize you were Tonifer. Hey! Everyone else, I don't remember. Maybe they weren't posting often.
