Discuss Henry Cavill

Has anyone seen it? What are your thoughts?

I walked out thinking why couldn't Man of Steel/BvS be this good?! She was so great and the film was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed the storyline and Gal is a fun actress. I think back to MOS and how Henry had so few lines. Is it really the writing or because of his acting? Should they have had the Wonder Woman director direct MOS/BvS? This makes me excited for the Aquaman film. I wasn't expecting much from these DC films, just like I don't have high expectations for JL. I was pleasantly surprised, definitely a film I'll be excited to own.

And the good reviews keep on coming! Was a bit worried it'll be a letdown but I definitely look forward to seeing it.

Probably because of the director? Im starting to see the pattern. I think this is like the first film in the current DCEU that's well reviewed and wasn't directed by Zack. (Yes I know Suicide Squad wasn't directed by Zack either and reviews were mixed but that's another story)

I think back to MOS and how Henry had so few lines. Is it really the writing or because of his acting? I heard stories of how they needed multiple takes for certain scenes because Gal had trouble with line delivery. If true I'm thinking it's the writing.

No direction in the writing and direction. The film was everywhere, and the only consistent string was that it was dark.

HC had multiple chances to act in different projects, so it can't continuously be blamed on other factors.

By the way, I'm smelling a bit of bandwagoning/hating going on w/HC. First, he posts a pic reminding people this:

Hi Everyone! I've been doing some Super Ruminations because this month is the 79th anniversary of Superman in Action Comics and thought it fitting to pass on this little fact.

He then goes on to bore me w/the facts of how Superman originated. This is all fine and dandy, but this is WW's weekend. Why does he deem it important to remind people that "this month" is the 79th anniversary? No time to come off a bit salty.

The next day, he posts a pic of himself with Gal and says:

Congratulations to my DC family members Gal, Patty, Chris and the whole Wonder Woman team for an incredibly successful weekend!! You guys nailed it.

I guess he remembered he was the "English" gentleman.

I thought the movie was good and Gal was ok. At least the stories of her messing up her lines/not delivering her lines properly seemed invisible in the end product.

The scenes with the amazons in Themyscira were the best scenes for me (but then I'm biased because I'm into Greek mythology). I wouldn't have minded if the movie just stayed there.

I got a bit bored with the slow bits/"romantic"/whiny bits with Chris Pyne. I think the biggest let down for me was the battle with Ares -- a bit underwhelming as his character seemed bleh. (Nothing like Loki who would sometimes steal the scene from Thor :))

Overall, I don't think it deserves all the praises it's getting. It's great, but not THAT GREAT. I had more fun watching Suicide Squad or Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2.

Suicide Squad was definitely more fun. Not a fan of either Guardian movies.

But did any of them have high quality writing or directing?

For me, the romance was the best part. The Amazon scenes were fine, but it didn't start getting good until she left Themyscira. I enjoyed her final battle with Ares (he wasn't who I expected).

I will agree that the movie was good, but not GREAT. Even so, it made me excited to see Aquaman. James Wan is directing it, so you know it's going to be excellent.

I haven't seen all of HC's work, but I've seen enough of it. If you have talent, it will show regardless of the crap. What do they say, the cream rises to the top?

Finally just saw the movie and I loved it. Gal did a great job. Any I liked the romance between her character and Steve. It was realistic. I liked the bit about Ares. The twist surprised me. I liked the imagery too. @Poetist you said it was dark but this was set during WW1, the war where there wasn't one specific baddie so I think the darkness on some spots fit with the setting. I really hope the rest of the DCEU is like WW. Now we just have to see if JL1 does that.

I'm sure they will try with Whedon at the wheel. However, I think it's too late for that, since the film is complete. At this point of post production, it is only fitting for minor fixes. They'll have to try with their next film, whatever that may be, or Whedon will try to find a way to give WW more screentime in the movie. I just can't see them changing the whole cinematic appearance of the film.

Yeah I know there wouldn't be much of a change in JL. I'm talking about other films post JL. Ah well. We'll just have to see.

So, it seems WB has greenlit WW and Shazam to film this year. That means these films will hit theaters by 2019, so if HC has another appearance as SM, he'll appear in WW. Maybe, he'll be a late casting in Shazam. If not, then he won't film as SM until 2019 with a 2020 showing at the earliest.

Have they greenlit Suicide Squad as well? I thought they were going to start filming that one too in late 2018 (around October). HC as Superman can also appear in Suicide Squad.

I know this is an old thread but there is a lot of buzz for the next Wonder Woman movie set in 1984. And I think Gal will show up for the July Comic Con SDCC. Any chance a young Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne (or even Batman) will make a cameo in this sequel?
