Wow! That is an interesting article. I did know about the other actors auditioning, because their audition tapes were online.
Re: HC attempts to get the part
Hmmm... I kind of felt a sense of desperation in that, or was that HC being pro-active since the bridge to WB was burning? I know that negotiations were breaking down, and maybe, he wanted to leapfrog on to something before WB tarnishes his name. Now, I know he was a fan of the game, but he had no idea of the quality of the project.
To think, that HC did an audition and they weren't completely sold. They had to audition 207 actors, call him back for another read, and finally, he gets the part. Then the producer says that they changed the part in that he doesn't speak as much. He's a grunter. That's code for not a good actor, imo.
I think they signed HC in hopes that his name draws in viewers, because there is no way that he could beat out 207 "actors" for the part. My cold heart feels good that he did get the role, because I sensed he really needed it. Perhaps, for validation or something, but congrats, I guess. I don't know if the Witcher will be all of that or that HC's name can bring in the numbers. It is streaming, so the show doesn't have to get network numbers. In terms of the show, I'll wait until it airs to voice an opinion on it.

I always thought that’s why the producers of this series picked HC because his name could draw in the ‘geeky’ crowd, plus the ladies. That’s why I always thought the producers APPROACHED HIM and offered the part, as opposed to them still considering others, and they were not sure about him.
I recall a while back Grace Randolph made a video blog post about how The Witcher deal seemed to be a step backward for him, particularly after how well his part in MI was received. I always thought Grace seemed out of touch because she didn’t seem attuned to how many actors are going to Netflix/streamed movies and how sometimes they get better chances to act in TV movies or mini-series. But now I wonder if Grace made her comments because she knew what went down, that he wasn’t offered the part upfront by the Witcher producers, that they were actually considering others before they finally decided on him.
Overall, the article just completely blew out what I had assumed.
In the meantime though, I’ve seen the trailer. It looks like a cool series, but I didn’t like how he looked like in some parts. He looked like a white-haired Conan the Barbarian, and I didn’t like Conan too much. (Funny though that Jason Momoa had played Conan in a remake. He could have played Geralt too as he looked the part.)

I think the producers were going back and forth w/their thinking in regards to HC and whether his name was strong enough and or should they go with a name or a no-namer. That's why they continued to audition.
Then, when MI6 was a success, I think that's when they made up their mind to offer the part to HC.

Oh, Grace definitely knows some stuff. People may not like the news she delivers, but she is on point.

I wonder if they had other reasons for thinking back and forth on whether to give the part to HC or not. Could HC be asking for more money, or were they hearing rumours he was difficult to work with? Grace mentioned this in some of her posts.
Well, we always wanted him to be more pro-active to get roles, so I guess he did with this one.
I just didn’t understand why the producers just didn’t pick him outright given he has been playing the MOS and has a big enough following. I’m also surprised he didn’t get any producer credit for this movie, like some other movie stars going the streaming route. He has Promethean, this could have been a good series to co-produced, particularly if he is a gamer.

All good points.
Did you notice that, even though HC was first before anyone, the Yennifer actress was hired first, so they were obviously certain about her.
Re: Producing Credit
I'm sure he didn't want to rock the boat. He might have been shell shocked from his last experience w/WB. Plus, they didn't appear to need HC and flat out told him that they weren't even in the hiring process.
If he were thinking about producing credit, he showed his interest too early, so they didn't have to woo him. On top of that, the Witcher seems to have its own following, so there really isn't a need to entice actors to come on board for the project.
LOL! The girl ain’t no fan of his or the fantasy genre. I do agree with her he’s gotten too beefy. His character had strong cool moves in the trailer, but the Conan the Barbarian look with white hair is not my thing. I really prefer him leaner.

Not a HC interview, but this is the cause of death of the young Witcher actress.

That is sad. I wonder if her role has been cut out from the series.

Me too. I thinking perhaps it was cut, because they didn't mention the Witcher as her last role.
