I know. It seems as if they are coming back with a new and improve message board. It might be a bit too late for them, when they see their traffic drop.
Apparently, there is a new statement from IMDB suggesting that the boards could be returning albeit differently. They haven't explicitly mentioned the boards coming back though, just that they were looking at ways to help users communicate and express themselves. Lord knows what they mean by that!
I think the boards are gone for good. It's a mistake as that site will be a dead zone without them.
@ScarlettJohnson I'd like to see this statement. Can anyone copy and paste it here? Or post a link to the statement? I went to IMDB but saw no such statement.
Would any one actually return to IMDb if they brought their message boards back? I don't know if I would. If I decide to come back, I would still use these boards and save my work here, just to be on the safe side.

Toni, that extra bit on your name sounds like Toni Turn-up.
Turn-up is slang for being rowdy.
Aww shucks, really? Had no idea. But I wasn't aiming for 'Turn-up' (more like aiming for 'Turn-in'). But hey, I'm being 'rowdy'? Cool! LOL!
The situation with the IMDB is quite weird. Before it was shut, the people in the Box Office board were talking about the Box Office board being on the crosshairs of Amazon next, given the 'mysterious' survey that have suddenly sprung up there. Lots of theories were being discussed, including stuff like they're pushing people to be more like paying customers if they wanted to get more info and so forth.
If I had to pay -- no! At first, I thought I would be okay with it, however, I know there will be no monitoring. Plus, IMDB needs to learn a lesson. They were stupid and tossed away their 70 MILLION posters. Crazy move.
If they charged before they shut down the board, then I would be willing to pay. Now? Not so much.

Correction on what I said above. Some of the theory was that Box Office Mojo was next to be shut down. There were all sorts of theories. Even one claiming maybe the studios were behind it because of some of the 'negative publicity' being generated from the boards or from Box Office Mojo when it reports low box office figures. Most movies these days make money from streaming, video sales, the ancillary stuff that is not reported on Box Office mojo, so one doesn't get the full story on how well or bad a movie did. (YOu would think that the solution to that is to give more stats for Box Office, but that would mean more free stuff.) Anyway, the common theory was pushing people to become paying customers for both IMDB and Box Office Mojo. How true that is -- not sure, but a lot of the theorising came about after the IMDB announcement then that 'mysterious survey' over at Box Office Mojo showed up too -- both bought by Amazon. Kind of feel for the Box Office board crowd. Some went there after Box Office Mojo's discussion board closed, so they shifted to the Box Office board of IMDB. Now IMDB shut that down... What is Amazon doing? Will they shut Goodreads next (that's their discussion board for books).
They might shut Goodreads down, depending on how many people they want to tick off in one fell swoop. It could be that Amazon is getting a bit greedy.. if they wanted to turn the boards into a pay site..why not just have the boards for IMDB Pro or whatever it's called?
