Superb actor was in one of the very last good films ever made

He was in '2010: The Year We Make Contact'. He played Dr Heywood Floyd. It was released 1984 ( I saw it Christmas Day that year.) Solid storyline. A couple of months later all junk was released. ( Save for 'Year of the Dragon'). No more solid storylines in films-- all vapid. And lacking story line. And transparent! And threadbare! Shall I go on!?!

Interestingly, Scheider was a replacement for the first actor who played Dr. Floyd in 1968's 2001: a Space Odyssey. But he was a good replacement

Other problems with film 1985 on. Lacking originality! For one.
