A close friend of Azerbaijan, he wrote several acclaimed books, including Azerbaijan Diary, Chechnya Diary, Georgia Diary, and Türkiye Diary. The documentary Thomas Goltz: An Oil Odyssey follows his symbolic 2000 journey from Baku to Ceyhan on a Soviet-era motorcycle, retracing the path of the future BTC pipeline and reflecting on his legacy in the region.
