السيرة

Bruce David Janu is an award-winning filmmaker, educator, and founder of Bell, Book and Camera Productions. With over 30 years of experience in education, Bruce seamlessly combines storytelling with a passion for history, music, and social impact. He began his filmmaking career with the critically acclaimed documentary Facing Sudan (2007), which earned two Best Documentary awards, including recognition at the Illinois International Film Festival. The film brought attention to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, both in the South and in Darfur.

Bruce followed this success with Crayons and Paper, a moving short film that chronicled the experiences of a pediatrician working with Doctors Without Borders across global conflict zones. His work continued to evolve with This Sacred Space: The Story of the Old Lynn Concerts, a unique blend of concert film and historical documentary, for which he was honored with a Best Director award at Toronto’s Couch Film Festival.

Venturing into new creative territory, Bruce recently completed Say My Name, his first scripted horror film. Known for his versatility and keen ability to connect audiences with compelling narratives, Bruce is now in pre-production for Ginny & Juel, a documentary exploring the legacy of The Ingenues, a groundbreaking all-female jazz band from the 1920s.

In addition to filmmaking, Bruce is an accomplished writer and podcaster. He is currently working on his first novel, Lilac Wine, and hosts a companion podcast that delves into his creative process. Bruce also runs Vinyl Voyage Radio, an internet station celebrating music history with shows dedicated to K-Tel Records and Frank Sinatra.

Beyond filmmaking, Bruce is a dedicated radio host and lifelong fan of Frank Sinatra. In 1991, as a new teacher, he created the "Frank Sinatra Detention Club," turning detention into an opportunity to introduce students to Sinatra’s timeless music. A quirky idea that started in his classroom made headlines worldwide, earning stories in Time Magazine, Life Magazine, USA Today, and even a mention on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Today, Bruce continues to celebrate Sinatra’s legacy through The Frank Sinatra Detention Club, a non-profit weekly radio program produced under Bell, Book and Camera Productions and aired on his internet station, Vinyl Voyage Radio.

Bruce founded Vinyl Voyage Radio in 2011 as an extension of his love for music, drawing from his extensive vinyl collection to host shows like The K-Tel Time Machine, which highlights nostalgic albums, and The Song of the Week.

Whether in the classroom, behind the camera, or on the airwaves, Bruce David Janu is driven by a passion for storytelling, music, and preserving moments that resonate. His work with Bell, Book and Camera Productions continues to bring impactful documentaries, films, and creative media to audiences worldwide.
