Janet McTeer OBE (gebohren am 5. August 1961) ist eine englische Schauspielerin. Sie begann ihre Karriereausbildung an der Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, bevor sie sich für ihre vielfältigen Rollen auf der Bühne und auf der Leinwand sowohl in historischen Stücken als auch in modernen Dramen einen Namen machte. Janet McTeer absolvierte die Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London und gab 1986 ihr Filmdebüt in Half Moon Street neben Sigourney Weaver und Michael Caine. Danach spielte sie vor allem in Fernsehproduktionen wie der BBC-Serie Porträt einer Ehe, in der sie in ihrer Rolle die Schriftstellerin Vita Sackville-West verkörperte. Für ihre Darstellung in der Broadwayaufführung von Ibsens A Doll’s House wurde ihr der Tony Award als „Beste Schauspielerin in einem Bühnenstück“ (1997), der Laurence Olivier Theatre Award als „Beste Schauspielerin in einem Bühnenstück“ (1997) und der London Critics’ Circle Theatre Award als „Beste Schauspielerin in einem Drama“ (1996) verliehen. 2000 wurde sie für den Oscar als beste Schauspielerin in Tumbleweeds nominiert. Für diese Rolle erhielt sie zudem den Independentfilm-Preis Gotham Award als „Beste Newcomerin“. 2005 war sie in einer der Hauptrollen in Terry Gilliams Film Tideland zu sehen. 2009 brachte ihr der Part der Clementine Churchill in dem Fernsehfilm Into the Storm eine Emmy-Nominierung ein. 2012 war sie für ihre Mitwirkung in Albert Nobbs sowohl beim Golden Globe als auch bei den Oscars für die beste weibliche Nebenrolle nominiert. Im Mai 2012 bekam sie eine Nebenrolle in David Gordon Greens Remake des Dario Argento Giallos Suspiria.

She has received numerous accolades, including a Tony Award, an Olivier Award, a Golden Globe Award and nominations for two Academy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2008, she was appointed as an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services in drama.

McTeer made her professional stage debut in 1984 and was nominated for the 1986 Olivier Award for Best Newcomer for The Grace of Mary Traverse. She received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress and the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her A Doll's House performance in 1997. For her roles on Broadway, she received two other nominations for Mary Stuart in 2009 and Bernhardt/Hamlet in 2019.

McTeer has also gained acclaim for her film roles, having received two Academy Award nominations, one for Best Actress in Tumbleweeds in 1999 and the other for Best Supporting Actress in Albert Nobbs in 2011. Other roles include Wuthering Heights (1992), Carrington (1995), Velvet Goldmine (1998), Songcatcher (2000), As You Like It (2006), The Divergent Series (2015–2016), and The Menu (2022). 

On television, she starred in the title role of Lynda La Plante's The Governor (1995–1996). She received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for portraying Clementine Churchill in the HBO film Into the Storm (2009). She is also known for her roles in Damages (2012), The White Queen (2013), The Honourable Woman (2014), Jessica Jones (2018), Sorry for Your Loss (2018–2019), and Ozark (2018–2020).
