Christian Bale is best known for his role as Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. Batman) in the movie trilogy "Batman Begins (2005)", "The Dark Knight (2008)" and "The Dark Knight Rises (2012)".

Good actor and good quotation and hot.
Who could blame him for shying away from Romance scripts - because they're not nearly as good as they used to be back when movies were actually good.
Why most movies need a romance sequence even though they're not RomComs or stuff like that - is a good question - because often those types of story lines subtract too much from the film unless you have really great performers like Claudette Colbert, Ginger Rogers or Barbara Stanwyck to portray those lovely ladies with which the leading men would associate.
Come to think of it - there are several other leading ladies of the Golden Age who rise to the occasion - but none since then who could rise above those horrid scripts these days to create any plausible romantic interest.
Therefore would have to say that Christian is exactly on the point with his quotation - and that he's hot - and looks much hotter without the beard.
