I saw a Merv Griffin Show from 1966 the other day on GetTV. Jerry Lewis was one of the guests, but Richard Pryor came out first. He was talking about the celebrities he had met in Hollywood, and mentioned that he had met Dean Martin. Merv said "Be careful, we have Jerry Lewis backstage, I don't know if they get along".
Richard said he didn't care about that, he was just talking about the celebrities he had met. He said that Martin said "Hello pally" to him, and said "Isn't that great? I could have been the janitor for all he knew. He says that to everybody: Hello pally".
Then when Lewis came out, he went up to Richard and said "Hiya pal".
I thought that was such a great line, especially for the time it was, in 1966, many years before he and Dean reunited on the Labor Day Telethon.
