Biography

Benjamin Doherty is a composer for film, TV and theatre. He holds a 1st Class Honours degree in Creative Music Production graduating from Oxford Brookes University in 2020. Recently he composed the score for the features Steel: The Blood of Us, a documentary that follows the community of Port Talbot and the news of the Steelworks closure, and I’ve Seen All I Need To See, an intimate dark drama that deals with grief. Both films have started their festival submissions.

He has composed scores for films that have been supported by institutes such as the BFI, Sundance Institute and Sky Arts. His work has been selected at BAFTA and Academy Award qualifying festivals including: BFI Flare, Aesthetica, deadCenter, Norwich Film festival, Iris Prize, Austin Film Festival and Bolton Film Festival. His work has also featured as part of the Sundance Indigenous Shorts Tour on the short “The Original Shareholder Experience”.

Benjamin worked with Hasbro, composing the score for the official Dungeons & Dragons stage production “The Twenty Sided Tavern”, currently playing New York City and the Sydney Royal Opera House. Previous productions have gone on to perform sell out shows at Pittsburgh, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Chicago.

He has received multiple awards from international film festivals, winning at the Oniros New York Awards and at the Red Movie Awards for his score for the film “Hunting Bears”. Other awards include ‘‘Best Score’’ at the Hollywood Film Competition for the short ‘‘7 Minutes’’, and ‘‘Best Original Score’’ at the Independent Shorts Awards for the short ‘‘Storytellers’’.

As a composer, Benjamin always aspires to compose scores with a unique sound to each project. Inspired by minimalism, Benjamin likes to compose sparse and intimate scores that say more using less.
