I've been a fan of Joan Crawford since as far back as I can remember. I always have found a credibility, heart, sincerity, and vulnerability in her performances that resonates. Yes: She was perhaps (it is said) whatever extent of a hardcore personality in her professional and private life, but always truly gave her all when it came to professionalism and being devoted to her fans and to her "craft," and always giving a consistently reliable high-quality performance that was that of a true star.
I enjoy and greatly appreciate her work from all the way back at the beginning during the Silent era, through Pre-Code era, then, from there, into the Joan Crawford who we today mostly remember, from the ongoing '30s, through the '40s, into the '50s, then onward, with the heavy highbrows, broad shoulders, a certain style of makeup, etc. During every era, and through every version of her, Miss Crawford always was a true star.
