who did not get the recognition he deserved..

He certainly did appear in a number of big-league Silent films. Dane was good at providing comic relief in movies that are otherwise dramas. I especially think of him in The Big Parade (1925) and The Scarlet Letter (1927). [I watched the latter, again, just the other week.]

I had forgotten he's in The Hollywood Revue of 1929 and 1930's The Big House - each which is a talkie - till just now glancing down his filmography.

It's tragic that he wound up one of Hollywood's many suicides, not to mention died impoverished.
