I feel like nothing in music excites me the way it used to, nothing about the Oscar’s excite me, nothing about award season excites me. I can’t figure out if I’m just getting older and none of this sh*t appeals to me as much or if the industry as a whole is losing its touch.
I’m talking about the mainstream acts, I still never get disappointed with my non-charting faves or indie films. But there just seems to be a lack of prestige in awards and lack of star power in pop stars. I literally sound like those Facebook moms who say Beyoncé/Rihanna/Gaga are all just noise and how they miss the times of Donna Summer and Cher💀
That said, I do occasionally like some modern music that teens enjoy (Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Drake etc.) but I can’t be the only one who feels like something is missing? Idk rant over.

The reason for the pop culture fatigue is simple. Pop culture nowadays kind of sucks. We have Kanye West, Kardashians, social media influencers. If people are tired of that, then I'm all for it.
The positive pop culture thing which is popping is the drag queen craze - which unfortunately seems to become too over-saturated. I like the body-positive thing which is happening but worried it might just be a fad.

Social media has left people permanently burned out and tired all the time.

I'm just tired of a bunch of bland(Halsey, Shawn, Camilla, Normani) pop artists dominating because they're young. We don't have no one fresh, no one who can really bring something different, the era of great performers is over and the great artists seem to only appear in other genres.

It’s because we are getting older. Our group of pop stars aren’t as relevant anymore.
I know younger gays who love Camilla, Halsey, Shawn etc... and invested in them.
We are aging out.
It also doesn’t help that nothing feel genuine anymore. It’s all about money and rating!

The day has come, sisters.
We are old. We sound like our parents

Camila and Halsey being considered main pop girls is......terrifying

I think it’s a mix of getting older and the fact that pop music is dead.

The more pop culture you experience through life the more the new stuff reminds you of the songs and artists you've heard already. Plus it's hard to get excited like you were when you were young.
Also the effects of music streaming might naturally bring out less exciting music and more music like you've already heard. Algorithems and metrics may have more an impact than we think. Spotify for example recommends music based on what you've already heard from the service. So how do the surprise tracks get in there. This might even affect how songs are produced in order to get play.

Maybe it is getting older but in my 20s and 30s, there were still acts to get excited about. In my 40s, maybe it is age but I still can get excited about pop music - but everything sounds so drab and unexciting.
In the '80s, artists like Madonna, Cher, Bruce, Tina Turner, Prince, MJ all appealed to both young and old. There was general excitement surrounding these artists.
Now artists are marketed to the absolute youngest demographic. It's been awhile since we've had an artist who appeals to different genders, age groups, etc. Perhaps Beyoncé and Adele are the top two.
And it's not just music - it's the same with movies. I keep hoping we will go through a creative renaissance. We'll see.
I think TV is the only medium right now that is actually at a significant peak level.

Yes, but at the same time, music and pop culture today completely suck dick.

Don't fret, kiddies: once Trump is re-elected, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock have said they will be releasing double albums and going on worldwide tours! YES!!!

Take those two plus Charlie Daniels and Meatloaf. The next Super Bowl half time show is all set. Make half time great again!
