Formation was TRASHED by y'all when it came out and I recall "meh" reactions to Drunk In Love and Single Ladies as well and look how that turned out lol. Beyoncé's lead singles/new songs always get this type of reactions until they are praised to high heavens after some getting used to.
I like the song. Her vocals are great. Maybe this will get better with each listen, who knows.

Well Formation wasn’t a smash hit at all really so comparing it to DIL and SL is a bit of a reach. Formation was a very niche song, you either like it or hate it. Spirit isn’t really interesting enough to have such strong reactions over, it’s just a run of the mill ballad.

Yeah, Spirit isn't a strong single but it's probably a strong Oscar type of song. She finally worked with a Swedish pop producer for this cut yet it isn't catchy enough for the gp. Too bad, she could've had her big soundtrack here.

Well that was underwhelming. The high notes during the bridge slayed though.

Yeah I like Beyoncé way more than Elton John too but this ain't Circle of Life. Her vocals are great but the song is bleh.

The song is boring and unmemorable. Definitely no Circle of Life, or Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

There's just something about Beyonce's big ballads that don't really grab me. Like Listen from Dreamgirls, it's devoid of any real feeling.

It’s because Beyoncé doesn’t have a personality and it shows when she sings.

To me Flaws and All and I Was Here are very heartfelt, but i do agree with Listen being devoid of emotion.

What a complete vanity project.
