محادثة Beyoncé

From Riverdale to Girls Trip and then even Dr. Strange, it seems like whenever a movie or TV show wants to reference a current pop star it'll be Beyoncé. Pretty reminiscent of how it was Britney back in the day, it does feel like Beyoncé is the go-to name to drop in modern pop culture. Not Adele, not Gaga, not Rihanna and not Taylor Swift. I always come across those Beyoncé references.

It's even more impressive when looking at modern music where she's referenced in songs as well. Is there anyone currently who beats her in pop culture?

I think all the girls get a share of name dropping although Beyonce does seem to get it more. I have heard Britney, Rihanna , Christina , Taylor, Even Avril once etc..

Gaga was referenced in the biggest hit of last year. Can’t say the same for the other girls.

Rihanna was also referenced in the biggest album of the year so far (Thank U, Next). Beyoncé is bigger than both in the US, culturally speaking though.

Yes

Keep in mind that Beyoncé has been longer in the businesss than the others so that might be something. Beyoncé's thing in the last few years is to be relevant in pop culture and news media. While that is of course a smart move in some ways, it has somewhat overshadowed her music despite it's massive acclaim. To the GP, Her music recently is more known for it's catchphrases. People know the phrase Becky with the good hair (or was it Becki) but probably don't know where it came from other than it's a phrase from Beyoncé. Nobody talks about the song, Sorry.

You could argue that it's better they know the song than the lyrics or that it's Beyoncé, but her status is a lot stronger the way you say it. It's a bit of a shame that people might not know her songs but I guess you can't have it all. I know some acts from the past could indeed have it all but Beyoncé has achieved a status that 99 percent of people in pop music never achieve, so I guess it's a win nonetheless.

It's also pretty interesting that we do have a everyone-knows-her-current-song-Beyoncé (2003-10) and then we have the more-people-know-her-catchphrases-than-her-songs-Beyoncé (2011-2019) and the latter is BY FAR the more popular one, as ironic as it may sound.
