I don't really know too much about either of them, but even when I didn't care about 1D, I did notice Harry was the most popular of the bunch. Now, that doesn't mean he's going to be the biggest, but I think given his label (Columbia) is better than Zayn's (RCA) and Zayn doesn't do much promo from what I've heard, I think it's a safe bet. I mean, they're promoting Harry's single similar to how they promoted Adele's Hello (mysterious ad during a highly successful TV show).
Kelly Rowland was the first one to release, while Beyonce mysteriously worked on her debut album and took over a year to do so (just like Harry), and had a few hits and collabs and a Platinum-selling debut (basically almost identical to Zayn), but it was Beyonce who exploded onto the scene as a solo star after taking a long time to release. But it was worth the wait and I think Harry might be doing just that.
Don't know. It just feels like it. But who knows, right? Time will tell, I guess. I'm putting my money on Harry tho.

Sweetie that's a terrible comparison, Kelly lacked the charisma, appeal, beauty and stage presence of Bey, of course Bey would suceed her. RCA is not the best label, but putting the blame of the promo on them is ridiculous, Kelly Clarkson lasted more than Xtina cause she actually promoted her sh-t and had a better ear for a single, Xtina was lazy and didn't promote, Xtina didn't got a solo hit this decade cause she didn't promote her sh-t and didn't release the right singles, Kelly got a worldwide smash and made Piece By Piece a top 10 hit with an American Idol performance, Xtina had a golden ticket with The Voice and failed to promote her sh-t, promo matters a lot, but it's mostly the fault of artists not they're labels, also RCA tries hard to make Tinashe a big name so it's not like they're an unsupportive label.

I also mentioned promo though. RCA is a supportive label to some, but when Columbia is supportive they SMASH the charts. When RCA is supportive it can go both ways (Tinashe).
I just think people forget that most of the times the brightest star in a group will most likely become the biggest one. I know shit about 1D but even I'm more hyped for Harry's single than Zayn's. When Zayn dropped a single I was like "whatever", but when Harry announced his single I'm like "ok, let's see if he's the next JT or Beyoncé." I think most people have it like that.
There are a lot of other factors that make someone a superstar, of course. But Harry being the most popular of 1D is a good start.

I'm excited for all of them however Zayn new single is flopping hard. It's not even in the top ten. That's pretty bad. I thought he had more star power than that.

I thought Zayn might have a chance of eclipsing Harry, kind of like when Robbie Williams became the breakout solo star of Take That and Gary Barlow never achieved the same kind of solo success.
But Zayn's new single is flopping like @Bionic Rules said. But as @mrjacs said, Zayn barely promos. I don't think I have seen him give one live performance.
The jury is still out on Harry. But at least they are building up anticipation for his first single. I am very curious.

It's already in the Top 40 radio and it hasn't been sent to radios yet, so I'm sure it'll pick up soon. Plus Zayn has a collab with Nicki, Timbaland, and Justin Bieber (allegedly) coming up so it's not like he's done lol.
Harry doesn't really have any personality to me, or any qualities that differentiate him from anyone in the industry. Just another basic white British singer, an we already have an Ed Sheeran for that. If Harry had an extraordinary voice it'd be different but he's just...plain. I'm sure his single will do well, but Zayn already broke the records that Harry wanted to break first. Plus Zayn's more talented, has more acclaim, and industry respect so I don't see any competition.

It was always going to be Harry and Zayn that would survive the death of 1D, since those two were always the most talked about. If Harry does straight 1D pop then sure it'll have some success but 1D didn't have a hit since Story of My Life, and Harry's writing skills have been met with mediocre reviews at best. I think it'll be hard for Harry to match Pillowtalk. Zayn is really the only new male artist I can think of that's able to have songs chart without doing an OUNCE of promotion. Harry seems like he'll promote more, which can often be successful but look at Kitty flopping with her endless promotions/payola. Harry bores the hell out of me and his voice is weak at best. If anything I'm more excited to hear new music from Liam since he has a great voice. But I predict his debut single will debut Top 5 for sure.
Also Zayn is establishing a brand. Singing, modeling, fashion designing, TV production, publishing, etc. He'll always have another industry to fall back on if he needs to. Like Prada said, he has Nicki, Tim, and possibly Drake coming along. I saw some rumors about Justin but that I have to wait and see. Also, IDWLF is still the biggest song in the world behind Shape Of You so he's doing fine

Liam is going to have the last laugh. He's going to outdo all

Harry hasn't released any music yet, so the acclaim part isn't debatable right now.
