I agree with you. I also have looked into things more because of information I found.

But I think the powers that be aren't interested in this. They don't want a vault of old content which they basically can't sell anymore. They want to keep pushing people on to the new content. They want us buying the next Batman, not talking about things that have already been sold. Also, forums provide places to gather momentum. Bad word of mouth can be very detrimental, and recently has caused big fallout. Think Ghostbusters and Oscars So White. Look at how much damage that did.

So they decided it's worth more to silence the mob than you or I can peruse over years of content.

Except imdb2 doesn't have individual boards for every movie/show/actor, which for many people was the biggest draw of imdb. This site does have that, the question is if enough people will find out about it and come here.

I like this site better than the one posted above. I don't care for scrolling to see movie/shows I am interested in. Here I tho in the topic rate and discuss. I do hope more people would come here.

I agree, that is the draw for me too. Share and promote, tell your friends. Right now a lot of boards are competing for the IMDB orphans... ! LOL!

they're gonna tank so badly. I predict the boards might actually be reinstated once they realize that's the majority of their traffic(i.e. money) comes from. Such a bad move on their part.

Somewhere I saw a post about how Yahoo did the same thing and it almost ruined them. I guess the powers at Amazon/IMDB did not do their research.

The site is obviously done for good. The reason why we were getting those D'oh messages towards the end is they were removing servers from their server farms for the boards. So there were less servers to handle the traffic, which explains why connections started dropping.

That they went to all that trouble means they are definitely not going to be reinstating the boards. They're obviously aware the site will take a traffic hit, but apparently they've already accounted for that and are ok with it.

Putting the boards back would also mean having to bring those servers back online again. That alone will preempt it from ever happening.

I love how B's board is the most active Person board on this site. Good job, everyone.

I find it interesting that Amazon (which I love) also shuttered My Habit (their fancy online store) and moved everything back to Amazon Fashion. That happened last year. As you know (maybe), Amazon has boards that you can comment on. It's funny that people haven't gravitated to some of those communities.

At the end of the day, the boards were a wonderful place to communicate with like-minded and/or similar interest people from around the world for many years. We have become a society that doesn't always have an appreciation for divergent views. That caused a serious degradation of the boards' usefulness. I think that has more to do with the bottom line than anything else. Yes, there were plenty of ads, but advertisers don't want to place ads that might not bear any fruit. I noticed that a lot of the ads recently were for Amazon itself. That's telling.

I did go to the Amazon boards to see if there were any posts about the IMDB board closing... didn't see any. Mostly I saw posts about selling issues on Amazon. Those boards are also super minimal.

Had IMDB invested in a few human monitors and upgraded the functionality of the boards, it could have solved a lot of those trolling issues. Most people I know only use IMDB on occasion when they want to identify a certain actor... so to have something that engages people, keeps them coming back and gets them to check other pages and related material which can often lead to a purchase from your main company sounds like gold to me.

I don't follow IMDb on Facebook but did they even post about the boards shutting down there? I don't think they did for when they really pulled the plug which is messed up. At least a thank you for a 17-year run, you know? Awful.
