Surely one of the great character actresses in Hollywood history, Agnes Moorehead was equally adept at comedy and drama. Remembered for her work with Orson Welles (she was Citizen Kane's mother, and quite glorious as Aunt Fanny in The Magnificent Ambersons), in the '50s melodramas of Douglas Sirk and, of course, as Endora in the TV sitcom Bewitched.
Personal favourite roles include Madge in the Bogart noir Dark Passage - her final scene in that is one to remember - and as the stoic Aunt Aggie in Johnny Belinda.
In a sixty year career she won acclaim on stage, including playing Eleanor Roosevelt several times. She is one of those actresses whose name in the credits will always make me smile. Truly a unique and talented performer, and quite a face too!

I've liked and enjoyed Miss Moorehead in everything I've seen her in. She, indeed, was a versatile actress, portraying a variety of types, and is always interesting to spot in anything.

Just out of interest, while I have seen her in quite a lot of films over the years, I have yet to notice her in a leading role... was she ever the lead? Back in those days the more esteemed or familiar supporting stars were, from time to time, given the opportunity to headline films, and Moorehead would certainly seem to qualify as a 'star character actress'.

I, too, have never personally seen her perform in any lead role.
