Many try to replicate the style of the early Coen brothers crime movies, usually unsuccessfully. But sometimes there are few examples that are worth seeing, like Greedy People. It has all the ingredients, dark comedy, surprising deaths, cartoonish violence, serious moral conflicts and overall feeling of decay. Main influences here are Fargo and No Country for Old Men, but just having the ingredients usually is not quite enough. You also need competence to write an interesting story and present it with a logical plot, the characters need to be believable, the dialogs full with context, and the plot resolutions should be sharp, surprising and impactful. And Greedy People succeeds in many of these, at least well enough to be a good movie.
Watching this also reminded me an older attempt from Sam Raimi to copy such style, as he directed a crime thriller A Simple Plan, exploring similar themes. Watching Greedy People it's possible to see it's not quite reaching the Coen levels, but it's close enough and it's a good attempt that can be appreciated on its own.

at 60% I actually think it's overrated. You're right that it's an ersatz Coen brothers flick, and I was optimistic for that, but personally thought it failed on every count. Didn't find it funny, the script felt like bad improv more often than not, and the plot was eye-rolling.
