Posters frequently use an alternative title. If you believe 1984 was the on-screen title used in the original version, please help us find proof so that we can fix it.

Perhaps, if you read my first message 'til the end, you will find the proof you need ...

Now, IMDB is perhaps a good proof too : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087803/

No luck for you, as IMDB is also listing "Nineteen Eighty-Four" as original title.

Oh, read the book too :-)

As already answered by Banana, "Posters frequently use an alternative title.".

And I let this down after, but please : Read the title of the book ! (And better than writing "also" read the title of the IMBD page : "1984" )

Here is the copy of the IMDB page which clearly state the original title : https://nsa40.casimages.com/img/2021/03/07/210307100402543996.png

Regardless of the actual title there need to be a way to search for this movie either way. Typing "1984" into the search bar does not currently bring it up which seems like a flaw.

Normally we would say to use the y filter, but 1984 y:1984 just brings up a whole lot of music/sports content released in 1984 with 1984 in their title. It's there, but it's listed pretty far. It's better to search with the orignal title, Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Is there not an alternate title tag in the DB?

There is. But all the movies that have "1984" as part of their main title are listed first. The alternate titles are only searched after that.
