...I probably would be severely underestimating. Just absolutely brilliant. Scorsese's magnum opus.

It never gets old. Pesci is brilliant in it. Although I think my favorite Pesci scene has to be in Casino when you goes to pick up his "winnings" from the bookie.
Oh Nickie, I thought yous was laying.
No, I'm taking.
Well, I'm a bit confused.
You're confused? Maybe if I stick your head through that window over there you'll get like, unconfused.

I'm probably approaching rewatching this as much as the OP. Was channel surfing and caught this on Cinemax...I figured "lemme watch a few mins then go to sleep"..ended up finishing the damn thing! One of those movies that I can't STOP watching. Ended up seeing it again from beginning to end On Demand a few days later. Probably one of the best gangster movies EVA (respect to Godfather)!

It really is gripping. It makes you feel like a fly on the wall somewhere no one would be allowed to be. Awesome, awesome, awesome film.

I never was into gangster movies. I couldn't even appreciate The Godfather the first time I saw it. For some reason, it was Goodfellas that pulled me in. My gateway drug. Great movie, great cast.

It really is a good film film without the gangster genre nomenclature pinned to it which is why it's so good. I do like The Godfather as well but GoodFellas was more gritty, more visceral.

I just watched it again yesterday after being quite hyped about watching some mafia movies again. It feels like I am the only person in the world who does not like it to that extend as you mention in here. Sure, it has its moments. I think watching real mafia interviews also ruined it a bit for me but I had not done that the first time I watched it many years ago. It just feels overrated to me, doesn't really come close to The Godfather.

LMAO!
OMG, you're fuckin' killin' me right now. I swear, I am in tears from laughing so hard.
Although I am not Italian I grew up with EXACTLY the guys you are describing.
I haven't laugh this hard on this subject since Eddie Murphy's Raw . What am I an asshole?! Right here! I am a little ashamed to admit that when growing up I thought the guys depicted in these films were something to look up to. Although not so much I still find the genre fascinating. I adore Miller's Crossing BTW. Probably my favorite Cohen brothers film and that is a bold statement since they have so many good films.

Ha! One of my favorite parts of Spike Lee's She Hate Me takes place when the protagonist "Jack" meets up with this Italian-American mafioso played by John Turturro. They chat a bit about how so many African-American rappers look up to and idolize the Italian mafia (right up to and including what names the rappers choose for themselves), and how strange it is from a certain standpoint. 2 thumbs up.

Oh absolutely. I am a child of the early 90s and that is when hip hop was really starting to take hold in the pop music scene and every other rapper had a nickname that hearken to the OG mafia gangsters. I was deep into that scene as well.

Right. Not me. I mean, I experimented with a little Scarface and maybe a couple other ones like that -- my tastes in rap / hip hop have always been all over the place -- but those wannabe Italian mafiosos never did much for my ears.
