Augustus Billings has a domineering mother-in-law, and to get away from both her and his wife, he takes a trip, claiming that he is going off to check on Mexican oil investments. But he's really going on a cruise with Mrs. Dathis, who has purchased his yacht. To throw everyone off track, he uses the name Mr. Johnson. When he decides to repeat the trip, however, all hell breaks loose -- the jealous Mr. Dathis is out to get his hands on this Johnson character, while a real Mr. Johnson shows up in Mexico, and Mrs. Billings shows up with her mother, and the confusion continues from there.

Augustus Billings heeft een dominante schoonmoeder, en om weg te komen van zowel haar als zijn vrouw, maakt hij een reis en beweert dat hij gaat kijken hoe het met Mexicaanse olie-investeringen gaat. Maar hij gaat echt op een cruise met mevrouw Dathis, die zijn jacht heeft gekocht. Om iedereen van het verkeerde spoor te brengen, gebruikt hij de naam Mr. Johnson. Wanneer hij echter besluit de reis te herhalen, breekt de hel los - de jaloerse meneer Dathis is erop uit om dit Johnson-personage te vinden, terwijl een echte meneer Johnson opduikt in Mexico, en mevrouw Billings opduikt met haar moeder, en de verwarring gaat vanaf daar verder.
