The film tells the story of the struggle of the Tabuaço theater group, led by Dr. Matias, a Brazilian actor/dentist, against a politician who wants to tear down the village's old theater. With the arrival of outsider Maria Duarte, the group gains new momentum to try to stop the destruction of the building, with the support of the population.

De film vertelt de strijd van de theatergroep Tabuaço, begeleid door Dr. Matias, een Braziliaanse acteur/tandarts, tegen een politicus die het oude theater van het dorp wil afbreken. Met de komst van buitenstaander Maria Duarte krijgt de groep nieuwe impulsen om, met steun van de bevolking, de verwoesting van het gebouw te proberen tegen te houden.

O filme narra a luta do grupo de teatro de Tabuaço, orientado pelo Dr. Matias, um actor/dentista brasileiro, contra um político que quer derrubar o antigo teatro da vila.
