It is nothing about officially broadcasting in one place.

None of the rules in the Bible of TMDB said any restrictions about the place or country of broadcating. If it has, please help us point it out. Thank you.

  1. The translated title should be the first official translation. In other words, the title of the first—theatrical, physical, digital or TV—release.
  2. The translated title field should be left blank if there is no official translation. Please do not add unofficial translations.

zh-CN is the language of mainland China. So, the 2 quoted rules concern the mainland China. The same way that the translated title used on the fr-FR page is the title used in France.

@robinletian said:

Please notice zh-CN is also used in Malaysia. Do Malaysian Chinese use traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese writing?

You misunderstand things. zh-CN is not traditional or simplified Chinese. zh-CN is the language spoken in mainland China.

the Chinese language spoken in Malaysia is also zh-CN.

if zh-CN is the language spoken in the Chinese mainland (only), I should consider that en-US is the language spoken in the US.

How about Canada, the UK, or other English counties? Which language should they use? I think we should add en-CA or en-GB too.

About these kinds of translation issues, you have explained many times to us and we appreciate your patience. But please also think about why so many such issues suddenly came out and sometimes listening to the opposite voice is helpful to this forum. I won't mean to argue, just want TMDB to help more people who love it all over the world.

As indicated in our rules, the country variations for languages apply only to a few explicitely listed languages:

  • French : fr-FR and fr-CA
  • Chinese : zh-CN, zh-HK, zh-TW and zh-SG
  • Portuguese : pt-PT and pt-BR
  • Spanish : es-ES and es-MX

Other languages doesn't have country variations and are using only the main code.

Thanks for your explanation.

The whole rule is

The only exception is languages with two different translations (French, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish). They work a little differently. For example, a fr-CA translated title can be added to a French movie if it is different from the original fr-FR title, and vice versa. e.g. Avis de mistral (FR) → Un été en Provence (CA)

First, In this rule, fr-CA and fr-FR are considered as translation, not a language spoken in a county. French is the language. so is it not very accurate to mark zh-CN as the language spoken on the Chinese mainland.

Second, this rule only said languages and translations have variations, and never mentioned counties. Please do not add extra limitational that the rules are not forbidden.

Last, as you said Portuguese: pt-PT and pt-BR. pt-BR is not only the translation used in Brazil but also in Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia. just like zh-CN is also used in Malaysia. The translation is not equal to only one country. and I think Disney+ is available in Malaysia.

What I want to say is that zh-CN is as same as zh-SG, just like fr-FR is as same as fr-CH (Switzerland) or fr-BE (Belgium).

There is no need to separate it.

If you consider releasing in one country, not releasing in one translation is the correct explanation of the rule, I can not agree more that you are doing a good job.

Thank you.

规则错了,管理员也跟着犯错。我们在infuse中添加这部电影时,显示的名称是英文,然而这部电影在中国有公认的官方译名---《瞬息全宇宙》,我们不希望在中国看到这部电影时显示的是英文名,这并没有什么问题,问题出在规则上。

副标题 和 主标题反了 正确的不应该是主标题显示中文,副标题显示英文吗?

I won't mean to argue, just want TMDB to help more people who love it all over the world.

Rules are always aginst people, in some degree, because rules might be wrong, be faulty, be incomplete.

We follow rules, as a compromise, not a submission.

We maintain rules, as masters, not slaves.

When a person defend rules just for the rules, the person is not with people anymore, it's become a part of the rules.

For any movie, there should be one or more "official" titles, and one of them should be chosen as the "best oofficial title". Also it could have some "unofficial" titles.

When there's valid official title, unofficial ones should be bypassed.

When there's no official one, the best unofficial one should be used, to fullfill the blank.

Now, take into consideration this question:

For a certain movie without "official" title but only "unofficial" title, like this one, if the users cannot get that "unofficial" but popular title as a backup/alternative to meet their needs, then how tmdb help them?

Now you can feel the irony of my opening quote.

TMDB的存在意义应该是为了广大爱好者设立的,而不是一个为了官方口号的DB系统吧。所以我就严重怀疑管理员存在歧视中国人,尤其只针对个别国家的语言,锁标题修改权限,还不让人写中文翻译,你哪些很多内容中文翻译都是爱好者来的,不是你管理员翻译的。

So here we are in October 2022 and still no Chinese title. Funny.

It's just field Translated Title (Chinese) is empty for zh-CN, the value exists for zh-TW, zh-HK,zh-SW.

How does any rule only affect zh-CN but not other Chinese variants?
