2012년 이탈리아는 경제 위기로 인해 많은 사람들이 남부에서 이사하게 된다. 줄리오의 가족 또한 에밀리아로 이사 와 새로운 보금자리를 마련하는데, 일이 쉽게 구해지지 않아 생활비 마련에 어려움을 겪게 된다. 겨우 공장 일을 구한 줄리오는 야근까지 하며 일을 하지만 줄리오를 비롯한 공장의 노동자들은 임금을 제때에 받지 못하게 된다. 가장으로서 노동자로서의 하루를 보내던 사람들은 일상을 보내던 중, 마을에 큰 지진이 발생하게 되고 모든 것이 무너져버리게 된다.
