Vin Diesel recently gave an interview about creating sequels for the F&F. I think many of us know that he wasn't interested in doing sequels at first. He said it was because he was afraid that if they did sequels the film wouldn't become a classic. Eventually he broke down and did more. I'm sure it was mainly because he struggled to launch other new projects. At the end of the day making a good living off doing F&F films is better than having no career at all. I don't think there is any shame in that. Especially considering I think the franchise will be more remembered now with these sequels rather than just one stand alone movie.
He made a good point though about current Hollywood sequels. Basically he implied that Hollywood is currently producing their best sequels, which I think for the most part is true. It used to be that sequels were automatically not as good as the original, but I don't think that is true today. Often today we'll see sequels that are superior to the original.
