Discuss War for the Planet of the Apes

Who would've thought that a reboot of Planet of the Apes would be this good? SFX aside, this trilogy is pretty emotional and I don't honestly get that too often with movies.

Watching Caesar from birth to the leader just hits you in the gut when you have to see the pain and anguish he has to go through in War, especially if you recall his younger, child-like self.

I can't really put how War for the Planet of the Apes deserve your attention, it just does. I really believe this'll be remembered in a long time.. think of it in the same level as John Carpenter's The Thing compared to the 50s original.

Also, APES TOGETHER... STRONG! I

Completely agree - sensational film and a fitting conclusion to a great trilogy.

As for the reasons why it has succeeded so well - like you say, hard to say specifically one factor but a couple of things I'd say that are important:-

  1. Caesar's story is a very strong morality tale which pushes this beyond being just a series of dumb summer blockbuster films.
  2. These films are their own series. They are not simply lazy retreads of the old films, which unfortunately is something we too much of these days. I didn't particularly hate it, but if you look at Burton's version compared with this then that difference is very clear.
