Selim is a cruel father with a bigoted personality, whose occupation is unknown. He cannot accept his own daughter because she was born a girl. Ayşe was kept under house arrest by her cruel father until she reached school age. When her backward-thinking father refused to send her to school, Ayşe's misfortune reached a new level. Even when she starts school, her father's beatings leave her unable to breathe. Ayşe's life is now a living hell. Although finishing elementary school and starting high school triggers the same negative reactions from her father Selim, Ayşe continues her education at a school near her home. Selim, yobaz karakterli, ne iş yaptığı belli olmayan zalim bir babadır. Öz evladı dahi kız doğduğu için kabullenememiştir. Ayşe ise okul çağına gelene kadar zalim babası tarafından ev hapsine tutulmuştur. Bir de geri kafalı babasının onu okula göndermek istememesi de eklenince Ayşe'nin talihsizliği bir üst noktaya taşınır. Okula başlasa da bu defa da "baba dayağı" kızcağıza nefes dahi aldırmamaktadır. Ayşe'nin hayatı artık bir işkencedir. İlkokulu bitirip liseye başlaması da, babası Selim'in aynı ters tepkilerine yol açsa da, Ayşe liseye yakın çevrede bulunan bir okulda eğitimine devam eder. Sonunda Üniversite sınavları ortaya çıkar. Bu süreçte Ayşe'nin babası Selim, Ayşe'nin yeterince okuduğunu düşünmektedir. Selim'e göre evlenme çağı çoktan geçmiştir. Bu yüzden bir an önce uygun bir delikanlı ile baş göz edip evlendirmesi gerektiğini düşünmekte ve aynı zamanda başlık parasının hesabını yapmaktadır.
