Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks are indigenous people of Ukraine. They speak their language, cherish cultural and religious traditions. For all of them, Crimea (Qırım) is home.
There are reportedly about half a million of the Crimean Tatars, half of them living in Ukraine. In 1944, the entire Crimean Tatar population was forcefully deported by order of the Soviet authorities. Only in 1989 they were allowed to come back. Since the temporary Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014 the fundamental human rights of Crimean Tatars have been violated. They are constantly subjected to imprisonment, torture and killings by russians.
Karaites and Krymchaks are other indigenous nations in Ukraine which are getting extinct. There are only 2000 and 1500 of them left respectively. Now the Karaites live in Lithuania, Poland, France, Israel, and the USA. Krymchaks could now be also met in Germany, Israel, the U.S., and other countries.
All these amazing cultures should be protected and peoples' rights guaranteed.
