Achar! is a half-hour sitcom about wedding blues, newly wed pangs and the battle of the sexes. It's about the clash between the young and the old, where cultures and personalities collide. It's about whether to say yes, or no, or maybe. It's about whether to give in or be stubborn. It's about whether to wear a saree or kwa. It's about whether to cook hot curry or steamed fish, and the hope of finding something in between. It's about love holding the pieces together, when all else fails.

A perfect end to a honeymoon is coming back to your own warm and cosy home. But what do Stephanie and Ajay find when they return? Incomplete renovations complete with no furniture. Luckily, they still have their parents to turn to...However, moving in temporarily with their problems also brings another set of problems, like lack of privacy, a small bed, and over-bearing in-laws who find age old habits of looking after their children hard to break.

Ajay and Stephanie move into their new executive condo flat. They decide to invite their families for their first home-cooked meal at the flat. Rosalind and Uma want a say in the menu and how Stephanie should cook. The parents try to get a key to the flat from Ajay and Stephanie. When they fail, Walter is given the task.

Uma takes it upon herself to whip Stephanie into a proper wife. But the unwilling student escapes Uma's critical cooking eye by enlisting her parents, Rosalind and Vincent to distract Uma with lessons in mahjong. As a result, Uma gets hooked on mahjong and keeps the Chang's up with an all night session. Owen, Stephanie's colleague grapples with an unexpected rejection and intrudes upon the family's little "mahjong" party.

Ajay and Steph decide to get a pet and have a discussion on possible names for it. This conversation is overheard by Walter who thinks that Steph is pregnant. When the patter of little feet becomes a possibility, both families buzz with excitement. However, when the couple appears to deny Steph's "pregnancy", the parents think that she is getting an abortion. Walter strikes up a relationship with an older woman on the internet chat group and sends Ajay's picture to her. Trouble brews when the older woman turns out to be an 11 year old girl and her parents make a police report about Ajay.

It's time for the Certified Financial Planner exam and Ajay needs to get into his normal routine to jumpstar his studies. Unfortunately, Stephanie doesn't know what the routine is and is also too busy at work to cater to his needs. So Uma has to step in once again to save the day, and this causes Stephanie to feel inadequate. Conflict erupts when Steph takes a day off to look after Ajay. Back at the Chang's, Stephanie's brother, Walter, is feeling abused when he's forced to do more homework than necessary and he runs away to Steph's home.

It's Steph and Ajay's 6 month wedding anniversary but she has to work late with Owen at the office over the weekend. This causes Ajay to get upset at having to spend the weekend alone again. On the pretext of having tuition Ajay, Walter goes over to the couple's home so that he can play his Playstation without his parents nagging him. Feeling lonely, Ajay inadvertently gets addicted to the playstation and ends up playing with it long after Walter is gone. Steph comes home at 4am after a long day at work and his incensed to find that Ajay is wide awake playing the video games.

While trying to fix a light bulb, Vicent hurts his back and requires physiotherapy - from a young and pretty therapist. As a result, he feels inspired to take up exercise and do all the manly work around the house, much to Rosalind's annoyance. When she suspects that Vincent might be having a more than healthy interest in the therapist, Rosalind and Uma visit the gym to spy on him. Meanwhile, Steph is taken by the articles in a woman's magazine and drives Ajay nuts.

Uma's got a special little something to show everyone, but she won't tell them what it is until later. This irritates Vincent and Steph. To satisfy her curiosity, Steph urges Ajay to go up to the guest room and take a peek at Uma's special "something". But a misunderstanding leads to Steph breaking the bowl, and now the couple have devise a way to put it back together again. Meanwhile, Vincent tries to teach Uma how to play Twenty Questions.

It is Umas 35th wedding anniversary and she misses her dear departed Anil. To help her get over her loneliness, Steph tries to matchmake Uma with her boss - without informing Ajay. In an attempt to get to know Vincent better, Ajay tries to bond with him by engaging in some activities, but they end up with undersirable result...

When the set routine of retirement living starts to bother Rosalind, she decides to take up ballroom dancing - only Vincent refuses to join her. However, when Vincent sees her getting cosy with the dance instructor, he enlists Uma to help him compete. Owen tricks and Ajay into hosting a dinner for him and his latest squeeze.

Priya, Ajay's ex-girlfriend from India, is visiting and she refuses to accept the fact that he is now married. To top it off, Ajay loses his wedding ring and has to find creative ways to hide it from Steph. Letchmi gets a marriage proposal from India. Uma is sad to lose her little Letchmi but feels that she can't be selfish. So she tries to help Letchmi make a lady out of Letchmi with great difficulty.
