The series "Úsměvy českého filmu" was originally broadcasted by Česká televize in 1996, and was hosted by Zdeněk Svěrák and directed by Pavel Vantuch. In every episode the host usually presented one Czech actor or director and showed clips from their most famous film works. After 52 episodes broadcasted in 1996 Zdeněk Svěrák left the project, the series changed its name to "Úsměvy" (sometimes also as "Úsměvy...") and continued with slightly different format in 1997 with new host Jaromír Hanzlík but still directed by Pavel Vantuch (in the new format the host was talking with 1 or more guests, episodes were made in a new set and there was new opening credits sequence). The series finally ended after 500+ episodes in 2013.
Most of the "Úsměvy českého filmu" episodes were eventually rebroadcasted under "Úsměvy" brand with unchanged original on-screen titles. The online sources for Česká televize broadcasts are only available since 2000 and the "Úsměvy" webpage can be found here (in Czech). There are mixed episodes from both "Úsměvy českého filmu" and "Úsměvy" and no apparent season split.
Above-mentioned can indicate that both "Úsměvy českého filmu" and "Úsměvy" should be added on TMDb as a single TV record with 1 season and name change in 1997. However, the TV network Česká televize in its 1997 year book, page 9 claims:
"4. leden – na cyklus Úsměvy českého filmu, zabývající se filmovým humorem v českých zemích, navázal cyklus nový s částečně pozměněným názvem Úsměvy..., protože vedle archivu filmového soustavně využívá i archiv televizní; průvodcem cyklu, nabízeným na ČT1 v sobotní podvečer, se po Zdeňku Svěrákovi stal Jaromír Hanzlík. "
Which can be translated to English:
January 4th – after the cycle Úsměvy českého filmu, about film humor in Czech, followed a new cycle with partially changed name Úsměvy..., because beside the film archive it used the TV archive too; the host of the cycle, which was broadcasted on ČT1 on Saturday evenings, was Jaromír Hanzlík instead of Zdeněk Svěrák.
I've intentionally translated the Czech term "cyklus" as "cycle" because in Czech there is a slight difference in the meaning between the terms "seriál" and "cyklus", although both are usually translated in English as "series".
Above quoted 1997 year book could indicate that the "Úsměvy českého filmu" and "Úsměvy" should be added as 2 separate TV records. But there are also facts against such conclusion:
Therefore, considering all above-mentioned facts I decided to add this as a single TV record with 2 seasons:
I'm aware of the fact that there is no apparent season split on the series webpage, but this webpage was made in 2000 and the 1997 year book clearly indicates that starting 1997-01-04 a new "cycle" (which usually means "a series" but can be also "a season") started with new name, host, format and graphics.
