Oh wow that's a tough call. Well, if I could only choose one, I guess I'd have to say Potter. He was such a gentle old soul and Harry Morgan was great, a perfect choice for the role.
I think I'd have to agree -- Harry Morgan as Col. Potter. One of my favorite episodes was early in his tenure when they found out it was his anniversary and Radar gave him the horse. It was the one seen through the wounded soldier's eyes.
So many, but I'm going with Charles. I think this was a brilliant replacement to the Burns character, and it was fun to see the technically proficient yet snobbish Winchester be such a foil to the unconventional Hawkeye.
Oops ... the episode that was seen from the point of view of the wounded soldier was where Col. Potter forgot his anniversary. Still a good episode. I can't really think of one that I didn't like.

I almost went with Charles on this question. He was an excellent foil for Hawkeye and BJ but, underneath that veneer of aloof calm, he had a heart of gold. Definitely a great addition to the lineup.
Wrong, Crazy. DOS was not that great an actor. He makes all uneven actions for Charles. His nice guy actions are merely scripted. They seem to unevenly come out of nowhere.

That would seem to be a writer's issue, not the actor. I think Mike Farrell is a lousy actor but I love his character in this show.
Similar threads happen all the time in the Star Trek forum where different writers and different directors for almost every episode produced inconsistencies with the characters.
Although he was purely just scripted to be a loser mostly (LINVILLE WAS NOT A REAL LIFE LOSER!!!!) the character of Frank was actually incredible. Later (in the show's last 5 years) all the characters were usually dull.
